Jávea Players’ summer show has again proved to be a sell-out success. The format initiated in 2012 involves a delicious 7-course tapas meal at the very popular Bar Imperial. José, Magda and team did their usual excellent job in keeping the food coming, including catering for gluten-free meals, and the wine flowed.

Promptly at 20.45, the punters were ushered into the Casa de Cultura, suitably fed, relaxed and ready for some comedy. Murder in Little Grimley was ably directed by Paul Hunter, assisted by Penny Grant. The actors – Nigel Poole, Caroline Drewitt-Mansell, Lesley Davies and Brian Mattes – transformed into the struggling amdram group. Special mention should be made of Matías Taranto in his first ever performance on stage, not even in his mother tongue! He participated in an Acting Workshop in March, organised by the Players, and became hooked.

As always, there were more people backstage, without whom no production would ever make it to the stage: scenery, props, sound, lighting, publicity, stage manager, ushers ensuring smooth seating arrangements, etc. If anyone would like to get involved, fresh ‘blood’ and ideas are always welcome: no experience required! The audience exited smiling and making a note to book tickets in due course for next year’s show which will be around the same dates.
