CF UE Tavernes 3-0 CD Jávea

CD Jávea suffered a nightmare game against one of the form sides of the moment, falling to a 0-3 defeat after losing first-choice keeper Edu through injury midway through the first half and then midfielder Paco who was dismissed for picking up two yellow cards in eight second-half minutes to record his fourth red card of the season.

Tavernes are always a tricky side to play against, especially for Jávea who rarely triumph against a team that is regularly chasing a promotion play-off spot season after season. Although the Jávea side was fairly strong, on paper at least, with popular former skipper making his first start of the season after his return to the club and David Buigues making the starting line-up for the first time.

However, the experienced keeper Edu Sanchez was forced to leave the field of play through injury and his replacement, Josep Ivars, who is a more than capable stand-in, was handed a daunting task of facing a penalty within minutes of entering the game; Tavernes’ Seral attempted ‘Panenka’ kick hit the crossbar.

The game was characterized by its toughness and Tavernes lost a player after just 31 minutes when Joan Talens was forced to retire, moments after Jávea’s Javi might have put the away side into the lead but his powerful shot from just inside the area was well blocked by the defence.

The second half saw the hosts step up a gear and take the lead just six minutes after the resumption of the game through Sabater. After 60 minutes, Jávea’s day got worse as Paco picked up his second yellow of the game, just eight minutes after the first, and was shown a red, his fourth dismissal of the season.

On came striker Rubén Ortolá in place of Fran as Jávea sought an equaliser. But, being a man down, they found life difficult against a solid opponent and Sabater scored his second on 71 minutes. A last throw of the dice from the Jávea bench on 72 minutes saw Marcos Bisquert come on the strengthen the defensive line whilst two young players Álvaro and Umar were handed the chance to claim unlikely glory for the away side.

Jávea fought all the way, but Tavernes’ Estruch tapped scored a third just before the final whistle and condemned the away side to their first defeat since early January.

Next weekend, CD Jávea face another very tricky home game against second place Ontinyent 1931 CF , who claimed three vital points in their promotion push after a narrow 1-0 victory over CD Dénia.
