CD Jávea continues to aim for a promotion spot

They meet struggling club UD Portuarios on Wednesday evening in a game that was originally postponed due to floodlight failure.

After drawing with league leaders CFI Alicante last weekend, CD Jávea face an important match this evening Wednesday against UD Portuarios in which it will be vital to claim victory and continue in their bid to claim one of the promotion spots. For this is a game-in-hand after the previous fixture was postponed due to a floodlight issue at the stadium last month.

For this match, head coach Diego Miñana can welcome the return of tenacious defensive midfielder Paco Gazquez from a one-match suspension but will be without Francois Obele, who has scored six goals this season, after the striker picked up his fifth caution at the weekend whilst Ayoze and Fran remains on the injured list and the transfer of striker Luismi Peréz has still not been completed.

With regards to the draw against CFI Alicante, Miñana admitted that he was dissatisfied with the result. “I have feeling that we lost two points rather than gained on. The key was the penalty. If we had scored it, it would have been completely different match.”

Talking about this evening’s match, Miñana insisted that all matches are difficult against a side that has won its last two games and lifted itself away from the foot of the table, one that will demand the most from Jávea.

However, the rojiblancos will make the short trip up the coast with the aim of claiming all three points and reduce the gap that has been opened up by the top two sides CFI Alicante and CF UE Tavernes (a side that Jávea will be facing on June 2nd).

Miñana admited that a win tonight “would leave us in a good position with seven games to go, 21 points to play for, and hopefully we can reach the final straight as a side who aspires for promotion”.
