Antonio Martínez and Julia Font win the absolute test of the Granadella Trail 2023

A total of 650 athletes took part in this iconic cross-country race through the Granadella zone along cliffs and slopes.

The ninth edition of the Granadella Trail that was held in Xàbia last Sunday proved to be another massive success with A total of 650 athletes (the maximum number of places available) enjoying this mountain race that runs along an impressive route between cliffs and slopes. In addition, on this occasion, the competition organized by the Club d’Atletisme Llebeig became the venue for the Autonomous Long Trail Championship of the Comunidad Valenciana.

This year’s edition had three modalities: The PRUEBA REINA of 26km in length and a steeper drop than in previous years, the SPRING with a total of 14km and the SUB20, SUB16 and SUB8 categories with a course of 4.5km. Also, on Saturday, the little ones were able to enjoy their particular Mini Trail through the woods of Parque Pinosol with a route adapted to the different participating ages.

The gold in the men’s 26km category (which started and finished in Parque Pinosol) went to Antonio Martínez Pérez from Club Scarpa. He was followed on the podium by Adrián Ivars Ivars from C.A. Gandia Alpesa (silver) and Francisco Vicente Macía García from C.A. Crevillente Marathon (bronze). The three managed to reach the goal in very close times with just a few minutes apart from each other.

In the women’s category, Julia Font Gómez of the Brooks Trail Runners won gold. Behind her, Rosa María Lara Feliu and María del Pilar Medina Heredia, both from Gandia Alpesa, won silver and bronze respectively.

In the men’s 14km sprint event, Álex García Carrillo from Brooks Trail Runners, Óscar Bou García from Consuegra from Metaesport and Pedro de la Torre claimed first three places whilst Leticia Serrano Múñoz of S.M. Pasico a Pasico Triathlon Club, Belén Leal Mora from Ondara Tri-Esport and María López Calomarde from Serrano Athletics Club finished in the top three in the female category.

In the 4.5km category (starting from Granadella itself), Raúl González García from C.A. Els Sitges and Rosa Plaza Martínez from Club Esportiu Corredors Callosa took the win in their respective categories.

As usual, this year’s Granadella Trail had the collaboration of numerous entities and residents of the municipality such as the Department of Sports, Protección Civil Xàbia, Cruz Roja Xàbia, a team of almost a hundred volunteers and the members from the Llebeig athletics club.
