Forecasts suggests that many places in the Marina Alta could experience strong gusts of wind throughout Monday and Tuesday.

Monday 27th December 2021 – AEMET with Mike Smith

The state meteorological agency AEMET has activated a YELLOW alert risk warning for the potential for strong gusts of wind this Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th December throughout the Marina Alta region. The advisory suggests that some areas of the region could see gusts of wind up to 70 km/h, although stronger gusts up to 80 km/h might also be experienced in more exposed areas of the region. This special notice is valid from midnight on Sunday night and will remain active until 4.00pm on Tuesday.

The latest forecast from MeteoXàbia confirms that a moderate westerly wind is likely to affect us throughout the day, with some strong gusts possible “in higher places”.

Note: The alert doesn’t mean that these conditions are definitely going to affect us but that the models are showing that there is a good chance that they may do so so it’s best to be prepared.

Prepare for the Worst

  1. Secure loose items. Secure or remove items outside of your home that could be blown away or even blown into patio doors and windows, such as patio furniture, bins, etc.
  2. Inspect your surroundings. Check that nearby trees and/or tall structures are undamaged and in good repair and are not in danger of being blown over and damaging your home.
  3. Stay inside. Don’t go outside unless it’s absolutely necessary and always keep an eye out for flying debris. Don’t attempt to make any repairs until the strong winds have passed. Take care with driving, avoid using high-sides vehicles, and keep your distance from other vehicles.
  4. Avoid fallen power cables. In the unlikely event that the strong winds bring down power cables, stay away from them and don’t touch anything that may be touching them. Remember: high voltage kills. Report any downed cables to the authorities.
