CD
JAVEA crashed to miserable defeat at Santa Pola to bring their unbeaten start
to the season to an disappointing end. The rojiblancos
simply weren't good enough against a side determined
to claim their first home win of the season and lift
themselves away from the relegation zone. It could have
been a whole lot worse; Santa Pola had the ball in the
net six times but three of the efforts were disallowed
to save the match turning into an embarrassing rout.
Early starts don't
seem to suit CD Javea. They looked disorganised, resorting
to lifting ineffectual high balls which were picked
off with ease by a resilient defence. On the other hand,
Santa Pola looked sharp and determined and far from
a side struggling at the bottom of the table. A text
book move ended with the ball powered past Ortola and
into the net but the effort was disallowed for offside,
much to the relief of the modest travelling army. Javea
attempted to lift their game and a great move saw the
ball crossed in determined style from one side of the
pitch to the other where Dani floated a delightful ball
into the box but striker Alex Cuadrado was unable
to control it. Santa Pola's Paloma had the ball in the
back of the Javea net twice in quick succession
but both efforts were disallowed for offside. The home
side was in total control of the game and the rojiblancos
were in complete disarray. Seconds before the end of
the first half, the inevitable happened and the home
side went ahead through a penalty after Alex Cuadrado
inexplicably handled in the area whilst trying to clear
the ball.
The second half
brought little relief to the increasingly frustrated
away fans who had dragged themselves out of bed
on an overcast, miserable day to make the journey south
to Santa Pola. There was a distinct lack of composure
from Javea on the pitch and it was no surprise that
they would go further behind after former player
David rose higher than anyone else to nod home
from close range. Minutes later it could have been 3-0
but for another fantastic reflex save from Ortola. Santa
Pola looked vibrant, passing the ball around the pitch
with confidence and impressive substitute Jose running
rings around Ruben down the right-hand side. Goalkeeper
Ortola kept Javea in the match with a string of saves,
including a remarkable block against Solves at close
range.
At the minutes
ticked away, Santa Pola surged forward looking to increase
their tally. Some remarkably poor defending allowed
Solves to break free but Jorge was able to race back
and block his effort after the tall striker had got
round Ortola. But the inevitable was simply delayed;
with seconds remaining, Marcos was able to connect superbly
well with Jose to end up sliding the ball beyond the
advancing keeper and into the net to make it 3-0.
