JAVEA moved into the top three after an impressive victory over UD Horadada
on a cool, sunny evening at the Municipal Stadium. Goals
from Puncho and Jorge claimed maximum points from a
tough game in which the rojiblancos not only
had to fight against a resilient opposition
but also against some comedic authority from the
man-in-the middle, Sr. Segarra Fernandez and his two
assistants.
The rojiblancos
started strongly against an opposition that had been
playing Third Division football last season; they broke
the deadlock after just seven minutes of play when a
superb pass from Álex Cuadrado found Puncho in acres
of space on the right-hand side and the diminutive winger
strode confidently into the area to blast the ball low
past the outstretched hand of Soto to open the scoring.
Yet the fans barely
had time to finish celebrating when the oppositions equalised
in controversial circumstances. Two players were standing
so far in an offside position when the ball was
passed forward that they could have been standing in
Denia, yet the assistant on the far side failed to see
the infringement and the referee allowed play to continue,
with Dani striding forward before looping the ball
over the advancing Ortolá and over the line, despite
the desperate attempts of Jorge to keep the ball out
of the net. Both players and fans were incensed by the
decision, with custodian Ortolá receiving a yellow card
for dissent after pointing out the error of the officials.
Javea lifted their
game in response, despite continual stoppages by the
clown in the middle. Midway through the first half,
Juanito delivered a perfect low ball to Álex Cuadrado
only for the tall striker to pause a few moments too
long and allow Soto to block his eventual shot. Minutes
later Puncho might have doubled the advantage when he
broke free with the ball on the right-hand side but
his tame shot was well-blocked by the keeper; Álex Cuadrado
was first to pounce on the loose ball but his effort
was also blocked and the ball bounced out into midfield
where Canari tried a speculative shot from 35 yards
with dropped well wide of the left-hand upright. The
rojiblancos had the upper hand as the first half
came to a close.
The potential
from corners was evident in the second period with the
tall central defenders featuring heavily. Juanma was
unlucky not to get himself on the scoresheet for the
first time this season when he met a great corner from
Puncho but his effort was cleared off the line. The
referee lifted his own game to the point of farce, seemingly
waving cautions at all and sundry and there some concern
that he would soon be booking the fans in the stand.
On 65 minutes he awarded an indirect free-kick
inside the area - apparently for obstruction - and Javea
drove confidentally forward. The free-kick came to nothing
but the pressure soon led to the winner just two minutes
later when the rojiblancos forced a corner. Another
terrific floating ball into the box was met by Jorge
who deflected it powerfully into the back of the net
to spark amazing celebrations in the stand.
Horadada worked
hard to try and get back into the game but the Javea
midfield did well to contain much of the pressure. With
ten minutes remaining, Martín forced Ortolá into making
another of his trademark 'wonder saves' as the away
side forced themselves upon the game at last, roared
on by their small but enthusiastic band of followers.
With minutes remaining Pastor might have done better
but his snatched shot was saved comfortably by the home
custodian. After some three minutes of added time, the
clown in the middle brought the game to a close to the
relief and joy of the players and fans and CD Javea
maintained their unbeaten start to the season and moved
into the top three.
