CD
JAVEA dropped more points and slid into the slipstream
of the early pace-setters in Group IV after a 1-1 draw
against CD El Campello. Once again, the rojiblancos
had taken control of much of the game and had gone ahead
thanks to a first-half effort from leading scorer Alex
Cuadrado. However they succumbed to yet another
late disappointment when the hosts bundled home to equalise
and win themselves a share of the spoils. Javea are one
of just two teams to remain unbeaten this season but
they need to start killing off the opposition more decisively
to keep themselves amongst the front-runners. With an
important home game against UD Horadada coming up this
weekend, the team knows that they must win to keep themselves
in contention. They have proved that they have
the quality and the skill; now they must find a little
extra to secure maximum points.
We all knew that
a win would have lifted CD Javea to the top of the league,
albeit temporarily, and from the first minute of the
game, the rojiblancos were determined that would
be the case after 90 minutes. Slick, pacy passes overwhelmed
the hosts as Javea launched wave after wave of determined
attacks. The breakthrough arrived after 30 minutes when
Alex Cuadrado met a superb pass from Puncho and flicked
the ball beyond the goalkeeper and into the net to make
it 1-0. For the remainder of the half, Javea dominated
and should have killed off the game by the break.
Although El Campello
gradually assumed more control of the game, the second-half
began with continued dominance from the rojiblancos
who were creating the more chances in front of goal.
Javi, Puncho, Alex, Ruben and Carlo all had great opportunities
to put the game beyond any doubt but a succession of
poor decision-making and even poorer finishing send
the game into a nervous final five minutes.
Three minutes
from time, the inevitable happened - again. A corner
was swept into the Javea box and the defence struggled
to clear before a cruel deflection saw the ball bobble
into the back of the net and afford El Campello the
late equaliser. Javea tried desperately to raise
their game just a notch and grab a late winner but found
themselves on the back-foot as it was the home side
who pressed for the late winner and the rojiblancos
found themselves desperately defending a draw as the
final whistle brought the game to a close.
