JAVEA knew prior to kick-off that they could have
gone top with maximum points after the surprising and
crushing defeat of Orihuela CF "B" just a
few hours earlier. However, for all the domination,
the rojiblancos once again failed to kill off
the opposition and a frustrating cocktail of indiscipline
and lack of concentration ultimately led to Javea throwing
away maximum points when the opposition was there for
the taking. Whilst the side remain undefeated, one of
only two teams in the league to do so, and remembering
that this is a small youthful squad that is playing
well beyond expectations at the beginning of the season,
another draw disappointed the decent crowd that had
gathered at the Municipal Stadium for everyone could
see that a share of the spoils was an unfair reflection
on the game as a whole.
Javea started
well and looked to have the game under control against
a side that was playing at this level for the first
time in their history. However the visitors were not
prepared to sit back and dig out a draw, making their
intentions well known when only a superb save from Ortola
prevented them from taking the lead in spectacular fashion
from a free-kick. The rojiblancos worked hard
to dominate but were punished by a succession of misplaced
passes and wrong decisions, although Canari, making
his full debut in the middle of the park, battled hard
to take control of the midfield alongside Ruben Pla.
However once again the rojiblancos failed to
take their chances in front of goal and had to be content
with the stalemate at half-time.
It was a different
story at the beginning of the second-half as Javea were
rampant and went ahead after 48 minutes when Carlos
Ribes scored with yet another superb free-kick. The
rojiblancos lifted their game and, roared on
by the crowd, they passed the ball around in exquisite
style and should have taken advantage of the shell-shocked
opposition by forging ahead on the scoresheet. However,
the tempo faltered as the half wore on and it seemed
that Javea were content to see out of the game - always
a bad decision with such a slender lead. They were punished
with ten minutes to go when some awful defending from
Chili allowed Algueña to break free down the left-hand
side and swing in a wicked cross which was poked home
by Blas after some awful defending in the box. The advantage
was gone and Javea grew more and more frustrated. With
minutes remaining, Carlos Ribes, already booked earlier
in the game, let the disappontment get to him and he
kicked out at the ball when a free-kick was awarded
against him. The referee had no option but to act against
such insolence and the midfielder was dismissed for
a second bookable offence. The game ended with Algueña
laying siege to the Javea penalty area as the rojiblancos
struggled to cope with the numerical disadvantage.
