CD
JAVEA moved to within a point of the play-off zone after
a comfortable home win against CD Polop. Goals from
Ivorra and Puncho secured maximum points to put the
rojiblancos back in a good position amongst the
early pace-setters - and with a game in hand.
CD
Polop arrived a the Municipal Stadium without a win
on their travels this season. A mini-recovery had seen
them lift themselves out of the relegation zone and
they must have faced Javea with a degree of confidence
that a good run tends to bring to football teams. Certainly
they were not to be the sorry walk-overs that turned
out on the last day of the previous season when
the rojiblancos, needing to win to avoid the
spectre of relegation, strolled to a 4-2 victory.
Yet
Javea started with some purpose and laid siege to the
Polop goal within seconds of the start. The confidence
of the team after the stunning victory at Calpe last
week has risen throughout the week and the side looked
sharp, passing the ball with ease and making Polop to
a lot of running early in the game. The tactics worked
as Javea took an early lead when defender Julio Ivorra
rose unmarked in the area to meet a delightful corner
kick from Carlos Ribes and powerfully head home from
10 yards, his first goal for the club since December
2005. Just five minutes on the clock and it seemed that
a rout might be forthcoming.
However
Polop fought hard and were not prepared to lay back
and let the rojiblancos have it entirely their
own way. They re-grouped after the goal and did
well to absorb many more waves of attack from the home
side before launching their own counter-attacks
with purpose. But the defensive line held well with
both Juanma and Julio Ivorra working hard together to
contain the threat; the latter would attract many votes
for the man-of-the-match award for his contribution
to the game.
As
the game worked its way towards the break, Javea lifted
a gear and began to assume greater control, especially
in the centre of the park where Pablo had one of his
best games for the club since joining back in the summer.
Half-time talk was all not about whether Javea would
win but all about just how many Javea might score in
the second-half. And it started well for those with
guesses at the higher end of the range; striker Alex
Cuadrado was hauled down in the area and a penalty kick
was awarded which was perfectly despatched into the
net by Puncho, his second goal in two games.
Javea
deserved to add to their tally as they worked hard
together to try and break down a resolute Polop defence.
Awareness off the ball was far improved on previous
encounters and the visitors had to be at the very top
of their game to prevent further intrusions into their
area. The exciting young winger Carlo came on to provide
a different angle on the attack and worked well down
the right hand side; he was to leave the pitch covered
in blood just minutes before the end of the game suffering
from what would later be determined to be a broken nose.
The game drew to a close with voices of the fans filling
the chilly night air; another victory lifts the side
back into the frame with three important games
coming up as we lead into the Christmas break.
This
Sunday CD Javea make the long journey south to take
on second-place Orihuela CF "B", kick-off
12 noon. The Orihuela reserve side have a formidable
home record, winning five of their six games on home
turf this season, and the rojiblancos will need
to play to their full potential to continue their great
start to the season. It's not impossible; lowly CD Finestrat
travelled down south and knocked their hosts for four
goals just a few weeks ago.
