SECOND
WIN ON THE TROT FOR JAVEA A brace from David Ivars secures
maximum points
CD
Javea recorded successive wins for the first time since
last November in a much-improved home performance against
CD Alone. Two goals from leading scorer David Ivars,
one from the penalty spot, secured the maximum points
required to ease open once again a comfortable gap between
themselves and the relegation zone. For the visitors,
the defeat combined with wins for struggling clubs
Albatera CF and CF Alfaz del Pi has put them in a very
precarious position just one space and one point above
the drop zone with just nine games remaining.
The
kick-off was delayed by just a few minutes when the
visitors were forced to dump their own kit and borrow
an old CD Javea away kit to avoid a clash of colours
on the pitch. Speaking to the modest travelling
support after the game, it appears that Alone's kit-man
had failed to do his research properly, despite the
campaign already running towards its conclusion.
It seemed to sum up Alone´s predicament this season.
Javea
started strong with defender Feliu's return to the side
after injury marked by a pair of bright yellow
boots that might have been an attempt to blind the opposition
forward line before they reached the vicinity of the
home side's penalty area.
Within
minutes Javea had taken the lead. Valentín's mazy run
into the area was ruthlessly halted by defender Quique,
whose scything tackle up-ended the midfielder and the
referee had no option but to point at the penalty spot.
After the debacle of the last home game, it was leading
striker David Ivars who placed the ball on the spot
and fired comfortably past the keeper to put the rojiblancos
into an early lead.
Alone
looked a ragged side with keeper Julen looking particularly
dodgy in the face of increasing pressure from Pablo
and David Ivars. But Javea didn't quite have it
all their own way and Alone´s Nino skimmed the crossbar
with a fine free-kick from 20 yards that had keeper
Ortolá well beaten.
However
Javea tightened their grip on the game and Alone resorted
to a policy of collapsing in mock agony to the ground
at every opportunity, rolling several dramatic metres
in an attempt to foil the rhythm of the rojiblancos.
Whether it's a magic sponge or a magic spray, both have
the required qualities of resurrection, somewhat apt
during this period of Lent, and the victims leapt back
to life to continue the game to a chorus of boos from
the home faithful. Javea may have their problems finding
consistency on the pitch but we can be somewhat proud
that our team doesn't resort to such play-acting.
On
34 minutes Javea extended their lead with another fine
goal from David Ivars. Picking up the ball in midfield,
he charged forward, shrugging off the attention of desperate
defenders, before slotting the ball calmly past
the advancing keeper to double the advantage and score
his 13th goal of the season.
Just
before the break, the rojiblancos had a golden opportunity
to end the contest when Duque was pulled down in frustration by
the Alone keeper on the far side of the area. Javea
were awarded another penalty and Alone were reduced
to ten men, the custodian receiving a straight red.
However David Ivars smashed the ball against the legs
of substitute keeper Michel and Javea went into half-time
with justa two-goal advantage.
The
second-half brought little respite for Alone as Javea
started the second period by launching wave after
wave of attack against an increasingly demoralised unit.
However Alone picked themselves up on occasions and
were capable of mounting a dangerous counter-attack
that would see goalkeeper Ortolá pull off a superb
double-save on the hour-mark. Coach José Luís decided
to strengthen defence and replaced midfielder Duque
with defender Vicente and hauling off Julio Ivorra to
replace him with striker Oscar, playing in an unfamilar
defensive role.
Just
before the final whistle, Alone managed to bundle the
ball home from close range which seemed an inevitable
conclusion as the visitor's confidence began to lift.
However the effort was ruled out for an offside infringement
and Javea were able to play out their second successive
win and their second successive clean sheet, only
the seventh of the season.
