MISERY
CONTINUES FOR ROJIBLANCOS Miserable defeat pushes
Javea towards relegation
Match
Report by Mike
The
silence that greeted the final whistle summed up the
feeling in the stands as CD Javea stumbled to a miserable
defeat that pushed them into what is now likely to be
a battle against relegation. The rojiblancos produced
little to cheer the soul on a cold Sunday afternoon,
even conspiring to miss a penalty that might have given
slender hope to claim a share of the spoils as
the game rushed numbingly towards a conclusion.
Javea
started well with Pablo causing enough havoc just outside
the box to win a free-kick in an almost perfect position
after just 17 seconds. But a bizarre set-piece saw Femenía
collect a short ball just in front of the Hercules B
wall, the defender trying to spin on his toes and fire
a shot through a crowded area. Needless to say, the
attempt was easily blocked by the defence. The rojiblancos
looked strong in the opening few minutes with Pablo
making life very difficult for the visiting defence
but the advantage was to be short-lived.
On
the quarter-hour mark, Hercules B forced a corner during a
rare forage into Javea territory and took an unlikely
lead when Fernando floated the corner-kick across the
face of the goal and beyond the reach of goalkeeper
Ortolá to nestle inside the goal netting on the far
side. The rojiblancos barely responded, although Yousso
continued to battle as if his life depended on the result.
Unfortunately inexperience around him made his effort
somewhat wasted as the giants of Hercules twisted several
more screws to take full control of the game.
The
second half brought little respite. Hercules B took
full advantage of some woeful defending to double their
advantage through Luisao and it seemed unlikely that
the rojiblancos would haul themselves back into the
game. Yet there was renewed enthusiasm once Onieva
was introduced for the ineffectual Orenes, confirming
the general feeling that the big striker´s continual
relegation to the bench defied logic.
Young
striker Alex Mata was dismissed with a direct red card
with minutes remaining in the match for what appeared
to be an otherwise inocuous challenge in the centre
of the park, an occasion that summed up the overall performance
of the rojiblancos. Yet, as the game slipped into added
time, Javea won a penalty yet usual spot-kicker David
Ivars was persuaded to stand back whilst substitute
Enrique placed the ball on the spot ... and fired the
ball well wide of the left post. A few seconds of confusion
followed; it appeared that the referee had called for
the kick to be re-taken but then awarded the goal-kick
to Hercules B before blowing for full-time.
Javea's
performance was woeful, devoid of enthusiasm or even
a determination to win the game and lift the club
away from the relegation zone. Instead, the rojiblancos
have to travel south to bottom club Aspe UD knowing
that they have to win maximum points. On this performance
it seems almost likely that the hosts will claim the
honours ...
