MISERY ON THE ROAD No match for the Grape Men
Match
Report by El Tel
Following
a convincing win over high-flying CD Thader, the travelling
army were full of expectations for the journey to Pinoso,
a modest town sitting in the wine-producing area of
the Sierra de la Pila and the furthest trek of the season.
However dismay was on the faces of those fans when the
rojiblancos took to the field with five enforced changes
to last weekend's winning formula, with goalkeeper Ortolà,
solid defender Femenía and tenacious midfielder Duque
all sitting out the game through suspension and striker
Onieva and defender Julio Ivorra suffering late injuries.
Once again Javea found themselves short on the bench,
a serious worry at this level of football.
The
match kicked off at a fast pace and both goals were
threatened early, the best chances falling to Pinoso.
Reserve keeper Juanvi was showing good form and made
notable saves from Jhoni and Luis Blanco. Having survived
this early period of pressure, the rojiblancos found
their passing game, although it was hampered at times
by a difficult natural grass pitch, and started to feed
some good balls through to the front-line of Pablo and
David Ivars. Pinoso grew ever frustrated and the travelling
fans lost count of the number of unpunished fouls
and illegal blocks against their side. A sustained
period of pressure from Javea passed unrewarded. At
the first period petered out, Valentín, who had been
a key figure in Javea's play, suffered a horrific cynical
foul by Pinoso full-back Perico that was to ultimately end
his contribution to the match.
Javea
started the second-half with a patched-up Valentín but
it was obvious to all that he couldn't continue and
he was replaced by Cardona early in the half. This was
porbably a pivotal moment in the match and Pinoso saw
a chance to exert their authority in midfield and gain
control of the play. Within minutes a short corner from
the left saw Pinoso full-back José David hit a low drive
across the face of Javea's poorly defended goalmouth
and Samuel slid in at the far post to put the home side
into the lead.
Normally
the rojiblancos reaction would have been positive but,
with a reshuffled side further weakened by the loss
of Valentín, they went through a bad period of play
that could have seen Pinoso add to their tally but for
some poor finishing from their strikers. But the rojiblancos
weathered the storm and they found some strength to
come back against all the odds and force the play against
Pinoso, who were sitting on their 1-0 advantage.
The
game then suffered a spell of falling flies syndrome
and became a scrappy affair attracting the attention
of referee Sr. Galispienso with the usual colourful
rewards. Well into overtime, a succession of corners
on the Pinoso goal saw Javea's Jordi suffer some rough
treatment at the hands of Raúl which, on any other day,
would have attracted a spot-kick decision and a chance
for the rojiblancos to salvage a share of the spoils.
It
would probably have been rough justice for Pinoso if
Javea had equalised for they were the stronger side
on the day. The result leapfrogs them above the rojiblancos
in the table and once again Javea's fans travelled back
home wondering just where the goals are going to come
from as the season draws towards its conclusive period.
