JAVEA
VICTORY LIFTS THE SPIRITS A fine performance secures
vital win
Match
Report by Mike Smith
CD
Javea secured maximum points to lift themselves into
the top half of the table for the first time since October.
Two very fine first-half goals from David Ivars and
Valentín put the rojiblancos in full control against
a Thader side which was made to look very ordinary indeed.
The visitors snatched a consolation early in the second-half
but an excellent team performance saw Javea claim a
second successive win at home.
CD
Thader arrived at the Campo d'Esports boasting impressive
form that had seen them defeat promotion-chasing UD
Benissa the previous weekend. Javea had collapsed at
Albatera, familiar fare for the rojiblancos this season,
so much of the pre-match hopes were far from encouraging.
However Javea began the game in solid, almost unfamiliar
style and stormed into an early lead with a very fine
goal from David Ivars, marking his return from injury
perfectly. Some great play from Youssoupha and Pablo
in the centre of the park allowed David Ivars to charge
forward, shake off the attentions of Thader's Valentín
and slide the ball almost effortlessly beyond the reach
of keeper Toni from the edge of the area and into the
net to put Javea into what many would have considered
an unlikely and quite possibly short-lived lead.
But
Javea continued to make Thader look very ordinary indeed
and far from the promotion hopefuls that their recent
form had suggested. They swept forward and should have
extended their lead on the quarter-hour mark when Pablo
sent in wicked free-kick from the far left-hand side
of the area which whizzed low across the face of the
goal but its speed deceived everyone and it bounced
unhindered out of play on the far side. Pablo was making
life very difficult for the Thader defence and should
have done better a few minutes later when his difficult
jinking against very hesistent tackling might have
opened up an opportunity but he chose one jink too many
and was halted by the giant frame of Ángel.
The
lead was extended on 26 minutes with another fine goal.
More great work from Pablo saw the ball lifted high
into the area and Valentín leapt ridiculously high above
two defenders to nod the ball beyond the advancing
keeper and into the net to make it 2-0. It was deserved
reward for the domination of the rojiblancos on their
supposedly more illustrious oppoinents.
The
second-half began with a stern warning against complacency
when Thader pulled one back within minutes through
Héctor, although it looked suspiciously like an own goal from
the unfortunate Julio Ivorra after some hesistency on
the edge of the area produced a clash of bodies and
the ball flew low and fast beyond a static Ortolà. Ivorra
lay prostrate on the ground for several seconds and
vague signals from referee Sergio Alberola initially
looked as if he had awarded a free-kick against Thader
which lifted the hopes of the fans. However the continued
celebrations of the opposition confirmed the goal and
Javea now had to dig deep to prevent the game from running
away from them.
Thader
pulled all sorts of tricks out of the bag to frustrate
the rojiblancos, rolling 'painfully' across the surface
of the pitch at every opportunity in search of an advantage.
Javea refused to play into the hands of such simulation
but would become even more frustrated by the ineptitude
of the referee who seemed blind to the obvious. Cautions
became regular with the official at one point apparently
booking most of the visiting bench for some choice words
that his amazing radar ears picked up from the middle
of the pitch. Javea's goalkeeping coach Pedro suffered
an even worse fate when he was dismissed from the
bench after those ears picked up more remarks.
The
official's performance was positively bizarre at times
and midway through the second period, he awarded a free-kick
inside the area for an offence that only he had seen.
Unfortunately David Ivar's effort to blast the
ball through an eight-man wall and into the back of
the net failed miserably when his embarrassing shot
flew unhindered across the area and out for a throw
on the far side.
On
76 minutes Javea won a free-kick on the left after a
clash of bodies but, before the kick could be taken,
the referee produced a second caution for Javea's Duque
and the young midfielder trudged from the pitch. Thader
gained a crucial advantage but couldn't find their way
through a determined defensive line which stretched
across the home side, the popular Youssoupha particularly
deserving the post-match plaudits for his tenacity in
the centre of the park.
With
Javea mounting a last ditch effort to extend their lead,
the referee brought the game to a close. It was a sterling
performance from the rojiblancos and they fully deserved
the applause as they stood together in the centre circle
to return the respect to the fans. A second successive
victory at home lifts the side into the top-half of
the table but Javea need to continue the effort with
a difficult trip to Pinoso next weekend.
