JAVEA
CRASH IN ALBATERA A game of missed opportunities
Match
Report by El Tel
Following recent much improved performances from CD
Javea, the
travelling fans made the long journey south full of expectations for the important
game against lowly
Albatera CF. However, the side that had beaten FC Jove Español B last weekend had
to be reshuffled by coach José Luís to
accomodate late injuries, with Youssoupha and Duque confined to the bench and
the club being forced to start the game with one
substitute short.
Yet,
encouragingly, it was the 'rojiblancos' who started the strongest and in the first minute Orenes was
through on goal following a great flick on by Onieva but the youngster pulled his shot well
wide of the target from six yards. Albatera's early performance matched their league status and early
opportunities to take the lead fell to Javea's Pablo and Valentín in the first
quarter but both attempts were somehow blocked by a desperate home keeper.
The missed chances inspired the home team who started to produce some neat
football led by their skipper Gomez. From a corner on thirty minutes, he hit a fierce inswinger that Javea's
Jordi rose to head, missed and unsighted keeper Ortolà who could only help the
ball into the net to give the hosts the lead. The goal galvanised Albatera, who kept the pressure on Javea, and within
minutes a second goal was taken with a well placed top corner strike from
Juanfran that eluded the grasping Ortolà.
Javea were shocked into reinventing their game and finished the
half stronger but again were made to pay with glaring misses from Valentín and a
truly shocking miss from Dino in the six yard box that was blocked by Trape on the
goal line. Amongst all this Albatera's Gerardo was booked for a foul on Felui who left
the field injured and was replaced by Vicente.
Coach José Luìs needed a change of play and introduced fan's
favourite Youssoupha, who had been forced to sit out the last couple of games, early
into the second-half. Even with a groin injury Youssoupha
showed his obvious class and the 'rojiblancos' more than matched the host's
performance. From a succession of Javea free kicks, Duque broke through the home
defence for a well taken finish but any hope of a perfect spur to recovery were dashed when the linesman
unjustly ruled the midfielder offside.
With the wind taken from their sails, Javea lost the plot and were becoming
exposed by Albatera's counter-attacks with defenders constantly under pressure. Worse
was to come for the ´rojiblancos'. As the game wound down, a free kick outside the
box was blasted at the wall and, with heads turned away, the referee judged a
hand ball decision against Javea's Aldo whose strong protest was rewarded with
a booking. Albatera gratefully accepted the penalty
award and Geraldo tucked the ball away for the third
and final goal of the game.
With the clock winding down there was limited action from either side until
the third minute of injury time when Javea's Duque mirrored the earlier goal
shy performances by blasting a shot straight at Choki from 10 yards.
For Javea a game to reflect on their missed opportunities;
for Albatera a
welcome three points in their climb away from the relegation zone. CD
