MATCH REPORT 2009-10
Jor 17 : Algueña CF 2-1 CD Javea
Sunday 10th January 2010, 4.00pm

CD JAVEA ALMOST SNATCH CHARE OF SPOILS
Match Report by El Tel

Just as the rojiblancos season is beginning to resemble the shape of a well known fruit, the latest challenge you could do without is a visit to the outposts of the Algueña valley on a bleak winters evening.

The composite stadium sits in the shadow of a marble mountain and the locals create a partisan atmosphere.

The short pitch was used to full advantage by a slick home side and any long ball played by CD Javea was gobbled up by their custodian. Algueña pressed the visitors from the off but amazingly could not convert their pressure into strikes on goal. The welcome return of Jordi flanked by Dino and the re-signed Aldo in defence were more than a match for the home side strike force.

It must be said that Jose Luis option to favour the pancake system as opposed to the favoured diamond shape, stifled the midfield play resulting in poor quality final ball from both sides. Five across the middle is OK with Pablo moving in to allow Dino to overlap but it was a bit worrying when Pablo was still doing this with Dino off the pitch for seven minutes.

The game had livened up on the quarter hour mark when a Kung Fu tackle on Dino saw him leave the field for lengthy treatment, the guilty party Joan receiving the first yellow of the encounter. As the game progressed the home side's inabillity to finish saw the rojiblancos coming more into the game and a great move down the left saw Pablo skim the bar with a terrific volley. Within minutes Javea's Duque had a clear view on goal and should have hit the target from the edge of the penalty area but blasted the ball over.

The tide turned on 35 minutes when a hotly disputed foul on Quini saw a quick short free kick to Fernando who snatched a shot on goal that looked to be going wide but took a cruel deflection and wrong footed Ortolà to put the home side up 1 - 0.

The rojiblancos finished the first half stronger and the travelling fans were beginning to sense a resurgance after the previous weeks dismal performance.

The paint must have been stripped off the walls of the home side's changing room for a different side took the field after the restart and the crowd saw why Algueña's progress up the league was no fluke. However, as is always the rojiblancos secret weapon, the reliable Ortolà showed why he must be rated amongst the top keepers in the Marina Alta, denying the home side's strike force with a string of fine saves.

Having survived the entourage the rojiblancos clawed their way back and had good periods of possession. Valentín, who had a fine game, broke into the box and was hacked from behind for a clear penalty shout but for some reason referee Senor David Leonés Dengra saw it differently and booked Valentín for a dive.  This was followed by a fine header from Onieva with a good save from the home keeper Diego Cortés. A succession of corners saw a bit of panic in Algueña's defence and a blocking hand ball by Roberto gave the rojiblancos a deserved penalty which Valentín dispatched into the corner, Cortés diving the opposite way to make it 1 - 1 with ten minutes remaining.

How often have we seen CD Javea this season in an advantaged situation but  proceed to commit suicide when a draw would have been a deserved result? With minutes to go the rojiblancos were still throwing people forward and the inevitable happened with an home side break away down the left and a quick cross saw Aldo exposed and striker Fernando storming in from deep gave Ortolá no chance with a well placed header 2 - 1.

We then saw the ugly side of Algueña when the slightest touch or hot breath resulted in the screaming dive we see so often in the Preferente, resulting in late bookings for Jordi and Duque.

Even then the rojiblancos were not finished and a good lay off from Onieva saw Pablo hit a stunning drive that Cortés could not hold spinning across the goal and scrambling the ball into his hands at the second attempt, so close to being a deserved share of the spoils.
