JOSE'S
YOUNG GUNS COME OUT FIGHTING! Report
by Terry Bradshaw
Following another week of turmoil at the Campo De Futbol, CD
Javea made the relatively short trip down the motorway
to El Campello.
Once again Jose Luis's squad
selection was severely hampered by the loss of several key players. And from the off, the blood drained from the faces of the faithful
travelling support when it appeared that Javea's central defence had been purchased from
the garden centre on the way down.
El Campello started the better, fresh from their shock away win
at promotion hopefuls UD Benissa, but Jose Luis's young warriors, scorched by
off the field events at the club, rose from the ashes and set the standard for
the reformed rojiblancos.
With David Ivars and Yousso gaining control of midfield play,
Javea enjoyed a long spell of offensive football and the crowd could
sense a goal was imminent. It was Valentin who broke through the host's defence
on 20 minutes only for keeper Jordi Bonet to drag him down for a certain
penalty. However the linesman's flag was raised for his interpretation of
the rules for another player coming back from an offside position and the chance
to take the lead was gone.
The rojiblancos were turning the screw and desperate
defending by El Campello gave away many unpunished fouls that succeeded in keeping the Javea
strikers at bay. The referee finally booked Campello's fullback Cartula for the
fifth foul on Pablo Irigoyen, small compensation for a one-sided affair. The
Hosts were now
resolved to long range punts to relieve the pressure and it was from this that
the rojiblancos defence fatefully stopped waiting for the flag that never came,
allowing El Campello's De Paula a clear run on Ortola's goal for an easy finish on 40
minutes.
The rojiblancos continued to control the game from the
restart and an early run by Ruben Sierro down the left saw his power drive skim
the host's crossbar. It has to said that Javea's passes in the final third were lacking in quality
and long periods of possession were wasted. Worse was to come when Onieva broke
through only for keeper Jordi Bonet to crash him to the floor outside the
18 yard area but referee Senor Bustamante Ortiz saw no foul despite the fact
that the striker would take no
further part in the game.
Javea intensified the pressure and El
Campello keeper
Bonet was fortunate to escape with a caution on 65 minutes for handball outside his
area. Within minutes David Ivars broke through clearly onside only to see a flag
raised again. Complaints rained down from players and the bench resulting in
coach Jose Luis being sent to the stands five minutes later.
It was leading
scorer David Ivars who looked the likely man to score with
fine efforts on target after good work by Pablo Irigoyen and Dino but El Campello's defence
were resolutely desperate to hang on to their one goal lead. The frustration was now apparent for both teams resulting in
a scrappy finish to the game and a host of late bookings. Once again CD Javea were on the wrong end of some
curious referee decisions, Senor Bustamante even booking Javea's coach Salva
for retrieving a ball that was kicked out.
It must have been a quiet
coach on the journey home but
let's take heart from the outstanding performance of this team which included
no
fewer than seven youth players on the day. If CD Javea's new administration can match the players
commitment then the club can look forward to a bright future.
