YOU'LL
NEVER WALK ALONE Report
by Terry Bradshaw
Following a tumultous week of urgent meetings and
resignations, the travelling support were anticipating a good drubbing by
CD Alone, especially after their good start to the season had seen the side
from Guardamar del Segura remaining within touching
distance of the pace-setters. Indeed, the last time
the rojiblancos travelled south to the Vega Baja in
October 2004, they suffered a horrific 0-6 battering
at the hands of a side that would finish champions and
win promotion through the play-offs to the Third Division.
Fingers and toes were crossed that a potentially
demoralised club might not suffer the same thumping.
From
the off, the home side showed their worth with a fine display of
football and a quality defence marshalled by the impressive Juanje. And it was
Alone who were celebrating a 'goal' on 15 mins only to see
the officials flag raised, much to the delight of the grateful Javea support.
Gradually Javea found their game, with David Ivars
in particular
causing havoc down Alone's right flank. The rojiblancos were gaining control of the centre
play with the dynamic duo of Valentin and Youssoupha outstanding once again
and frustrating some of the hosts, resulting in Alone's Leo being
booked for a very late tackle on Valentin.
The product of Javea's wake up call resulted in a
very entertaining game of football with both sides creating opportunities. However
the final ingredient was missing and the normally ruthless Onieva was denied on
at least three occassions by the extremely able goalkeeping of Sergio. But coach Jose Luis watched his patched up side produce
some neat football and was surely full of praise at the break.
The second half began with a spate of good attacking
play by Alone but the equally able custodian Ortola demonstrated why he was
claimed Javea's Player of the Season before his brief sojourn in the Third Division
with Villajoyosa CF. The custodian produced a fine string of saves to deny
Alone's impressive striker Leo, who had the measure of Javeas central defence
and
surely any other day he would have bagged a brace.
Javea's midfield
maestro Charly Mallman made a welcome appearance on
60 mins, his first run out for the club as a knee injury denied him making an
early contribution to Javea's modest start of the season. The
Brazilian's pace would be too much for a
tiring Alone but somehow the play was not drifting his way resulting in him
being starved of the ball far too often.
The buzzing Pablo
Irogoyen replaced Onieva on 73min and his
contribution was to keep the Alone defence busy. This turned out to be a wise
move as Alone were throwing more people forward looking for the win.
With the referee's time piece seemingly affected by
the summer time change, Javea once again had to endure a whopping seven min anxious overrun of
play. However Javea were resolute in defence with Ruben
Sierro shining once again, resulting in a goalless draw.
CD Javea now look forward to the visit of Altea next
Sunday ( 5pm ko tbc). The fixture has always rated highly with both
players ans supporters.
The behind the dugout news was the shock resignation
of CD Javea President Mark Catlin. Whatever the reasons surely the board of CD
Javea, players and supporters owe their gratitude to a remarkable man.
