UD
Horadada boast an annual budget of over three times
that of CD Javea and arrived at the Municipal Stadium
as one of the favourites to claim a play-off spot
at the end of the season. The rojiblancos
have
had a decent pre-season campaign but this year's squad includes
half a dozen or so young players who have never competed
at Preferente level before. The contrast between the
two sides was fairly clear.
It
was made even clearer with less than a minute on the
clock when the visitors took through Ivan who smashed
the ball home from close range after some great work
on the flanks deceived the home defence, allowing
the ball to be crossed across a crowded goalmouth and
into the path of the unmarked Iavn on the far side.
It was a reality check for the fans who had watched
their side rip apart SD Formentera just a week earlier.
However
the rojiblancos
refused to conceded defeat so early in the game and
worked hard to absorb the visitors who poured worryingly
down the left flank through Josan, who engaged in spirited
banter with the home fans. Gerardo was in determined
mood to balance the scoreline and would soon force Horadad's
Dani into chipping his own keeper perfectly from
the edge of the box to equalise for Javea, the effort
cheered by the home fans who immediately suggested that
Kenny Brown sign him up as a striker.
Javea's
Onieva had shown his commitment to the club by staying
on when other offers beckoned and got himself back on
the scoresheet just before half-time when he charged
down the right-hand side and fired low across the keeper
to score his 12th goal of for the club and put the rojiblancos
into the lead at half-time.
Javea
came out in the second-half deteremined to put the game
beyond Horadada and claim a winning start to the season.
Eventually the continued pressure would open a crack
and the visiting custodian clearly handled yards outside
of the area under pressure from Yousso. The referee
had little choice but to deliver an instant dismissal
and hand the rojiblancos
a clear advantage.
Yet
it didn't quite go to plan. Horarada were awarded a
free-kick just outside of the area and Javi floated
a superb kick past Jorge to bring the visitors level.
Javea poured forward and hit the bar twice before Horadada
took the lead with minutes remaining through Josan,
who beat three players before unleashing a terrific
shot past Jorge, an effort which drew appreciation from
both sets of supporters. The spikey-haired midfielder
celebrated in style, somersaulting his way along the
bye-line.
Despite
terrific pressure from Javea in the last minutes of
the game. the visitors managed to cling on to their
lead and claim maximum points. For the rojiblancos
it was a disappointing start but the performance suggested
that Javea's young side has the ability to make an impact
this season.
Coach
Kenny Brown was far from downbeat after the game. "Obviously
the result is disappointing but there are a lot of positives
to take away from this game," he told www.javeamigos.com.
"Horadada were a good side which showed with their
goals. Remember that four or five of our players have
never played at this level before and it's been a steep
learning curve for them. We need to be better at decision-making
in the final third but, in all honesty, we're going
to play a lot worse than that and win games."
