JAVEA cruised to victory in the final pre-season game
of the summer, crushing SD Formentera 7-0 at the Municipal
Stadium. A brace each from Cissoko and Onieva plus strikes
from Valentin, David Ivars and Javi set a comfortable
tone for the 300 or so fans who enjoyed the warm
evening sunshine for the traditional presentation of
the first team squad. The scoreline flattered the rojiblancos;
the visitors from the Balearics had recently suffered
relegation from the Third Division and were hoped to
be stern test for Kenny Brown's young side. However,
Javea took on a poor side which lacked both match fitness
and skill and they might have reached double figures
had the convention of wholesale changes not been observed
by Kenny Brown. But one shouldn't take too much away
from the whole squad that was introduced to the fans
for they all played their part in the victory, stroking
the ball around the pitch with comfortable and consummate
ease for the full 90 minutes. Long ball desperation
appears to be a distant memory, although when the real
action begins next Sunday, UD Horadada will be an entirely
different proposition to SD Formentera.
Javea
opened the scoring within two minutes of the start when
Valentin floated a sweet little chip over the visiting
goalkeeper who really should have done much better than
simply watch the perfect flight of the ball as it passed
over his head and into the top left-hand corner of the
net. The rojiblancos passed the ball between themselves
with confidence, leaving Formentera quite literally
huffing and puffing as they chased shadows.
After
13 minutes Javea doubled the advantage, thanks to some
sweet play down the right. Cissoko has been a revelation
since his arrival in the summer and he continues to
be confident enough to bring the ball out of defence
to encourage counter-attack. A beautiful ball into space
on the far right was picked up by David Ivars who skipped
effortlessly to the goal-line before sending across
a delightful low ball which was met by Onieva who simply
sidefooted into the net to make it 2-0.
On
26 minutes David Ivars got himself on the scoresheet
with a nice header before vice-captain Javi made
it 4-0 two minutes later, making sure the ball crossed
the line after some great work from defender Brad who
pushed the ball under the despairing dive of the
keeper and Javi simply tapped home into an empty net.
Cissoko made it 5-0 with another sweet header,
fast becoming his trademark, before Onieva scored his
second and Javea's sixth two minutes before the break,
scoring easily after rounding the woeful keeper.
During
the break, Kenny Brown followed convention and made
several changes as did Formentera and the game took
on a more balanced look for a while. However goalkeeper
Jorge still had very little to do as his defensive line
swept up any rare sign of danger. Cissoko scored
just before the hour-mark to make it 7-0 after which
the rojiblancos appeared to lift their foot off the
gas. They still played delightful football at times,
making the most of the acres of space afforded to them
by the opposition to practice their passing skills.
Cissoko was once again the star of the show and he promises
to be the one to watch as the new season begins next
weekend.
