The
last dust pitch left in the league greeted CD Javea on a warm sunny day in
Beniganim, writes Wynn Brekon for www.javeamigos.com. With a large vocal home support and with drums and
flares adding to the atmosphere, UD Beniganim were looking to cement their
place in the play offs, having lost just four times in 29 games and only once
at home. However, Javea have already claimed
maximum points against Beniganim in a thrilling
game at home back in November and, although
play-off aspirations might have to
be put on hold for another season, the rojiblancos
were still looking to finish well in the
table
CD
Javea started the match in a 3-4-2-1 formation with Javi and David Ivars looking
to support Juanito up front and the tenacious Pablo returning to command the
midfielder alongside the enigmatic Youssoupha.
Within ten minutes the rojiblancos
had taken what was on paper an unlikely
lead. A long throw from Carbonell down the side saw Juanito turn his man
and deliver a great cross that just evaded everyone apart from the oncoming
Dani beyond the far post. With some neat control and great vision, the midfielder
picked out Pablo on the edge
of the box who unleashed a a first time volley which flew into the bottom left hand corner
to make it 1-0.
The
home side, roared on by the noisy home crowd,
almost equalised midway through the half
but the effort shaved the post after flying
through a crowd of bodies. They might have
considered gaining an advantage when goalkeeper
Ruiberriz received extensive treatment for a head wound.
Play would continue after eight minutes with the custodian playing with a heavily bandaged head (think Terry Butcher
v Sweden in 1990)
which would need five stitches after the game.
At the first-half drew to a belated close, Javi should have done better when 'one-on-one'
with keeper but his first
touch took him wide and he shot across the face of goal just missing the
on-rushing Juanito. After nearly 10 mins added time the ref brought to an end a pulsating first
half.
Just after half time a local band entered the small stadium which added to the
already excellent atmosphere as both teams started the second-half in much the
same vein as the first, looking to attack at every opportunity
although Beniganim enjoyed more of possession with Javea happy to sit
deep and play on the counter attack.
On 65 minutes Javi again broke free from the defence but after cutting inside his
shot just missed the near post with the keeper beaten. Javea were now catching Beniganim on the break at will, with David
Ivars, Javi and
Juanito causing problems to a fragile defence.
Within a minute though, Beniganim were level. A scramble just outside the area
with boots and dust everywhere saw a strike at goal which hit the unfortunate
Youssu on the arm. The resulting penalty was dispatched with force and the
home team now tasted victory on a pitch which has not seen them beaten since
the first day of the season.
A double substitution saw Scott and Onieva replace the tiring Javi
and Jaunito. Both players can be proud of their contribution, but the introduction
of fresh legs proved decisive. Within five minutes, the rojiblancos were back in front. Again a Beniganim attack
was broken up by the impressive pairing of Pablo and Youssu. The ball moved to
David Ivars who played the ball wide to Scott. With his first touch, the Englishman sent a
dangerous cross to to the far post where Onieva was waiting to head home an
easy goal. However he wasn´t needed as the ball flew into the top corner of the net, leaving the
keeper with no chance. The goal sent the players into wild celebration infront
of the dugout.
Straight from kick off though a bit of indecision by Carbonell, who had
excellent game, let in the left winger. Just as he was about to shoot the alert
Ochando came flying through to make a vital block. This was to be the last meaningful attack by the home team.
With their tails now up, Javea finished the game very much on top and were
unlucky not to add to their goal tally. This had been a very professional
performance against a good Beniganim team.
As the referee (who, alongside his assistants also had a great game) brought the game to an end the home support acknowledged they
had seen a great game of football and applauded both teams off the pitch. A mention has to be given to probably the best home support witnessed this
season. Not only were they loud but right to the end they were singing and
encouraging their team even when things were not going their way. They were a
credit to UD Beniganim.
As for Javea, that is nine points out of 12 and they have now beaten
both CD Olimpic and UD Beniganim in those games.
With a tough home game to come against Muro the season is far from over.
