JAVEA got their season back on track
with a convincing 4-1 home victory
over CD Benifaio and recorded their
third double of the season. Any football
neutral might want to keep an eye out
for this fixture in the future as these
two teams have now shared 13 goals in
two games; for those with a little more
bias, nine of those strikes have
been in favour of the 'rojiblancos'.
The win lifts the club into fifth spot,
six points adrift from the play-off
zone after the top three all recorded
wins this weekend but there are
still many points to play for and
CD Javea are by no means out of the
running.
After
the disappointments of Canals and Alberic,
CD Javea needed to get their season
back on track as soon as possible. But
their recovery would not be made easy
by the visit of CD Benifaio, sitting
just a position below the 'rojiblancos'
on the basis of goal difference. Javea
boasted a significant advantage
after winning 5-3 in Benifaio back in
October but the visitors arrived on
the back of a decent run of form so
the result was never going to be a foregone
conclusion. Still, the 'rojiblancos'
took the game to their opposition straight
from the kick-off and might have taken
the lead after just two minutes had
Ochando connected with a great
free-kick from David Ivars with his
head rather than the back of his neck.
However, two minutes later the centre-half
made amends by nodding home a delightful
cross from Aldo to put the home side
into an early lead.
Javea
had much of the early play but the movement
was ragged and real chances were few.
Pablo, making his first start since
his return from injury, might have
done better connecting with the ball
after some good work from Onieva on
the edge of the box but the giner-haired
midfielder could only managed a snatched
shot after the defender did well to
close him down. Minutes later Onieva
connected well with Scott but was unable
to find get himself in a decent position
to capitalise on a great lobbed return
from the Englishman. Benifaio were really
on the back foot and might have found
themselves further behind had Aldo did
much better with a free-kick, his effort
curing well wide of the right-hand post.
Javea
had much of the possession during the
opening half of the first period but
failed to turn their advantage into
goals. Benifaio absorbed the pressure
and even managed the odd foray into
enemy territory with the tall Floro
going close after meeting a free-kick
from Sevi but his powerful header from
the edge of the box was comfortably
wide for Ruiberriz. Yet the effort seemed
to spur on the visitors. Confusion between
Ochando and Juanma allowed captain Chispa
to break free with the ball but he was
hurried into a snatched effort from the
edge of the box which was well saved
by Ruiberriz as Javea's defence
recovered enough to rally back. However
a minute later Benifaio worked themselves
back onto level terms when Ochando's
attempted block fell perfectly to Sergio
and the diminutive striker cut inside
the back-pedalling defence to fire low
beyond the reach of the keeper and equalise.
Javea's
early dominance disappeared and
the crowd became restless. Benifaio's
Sergio was proving to be handful for
Ochando; a poor pass from Pablo exposed
the centre-half to Sergio once again
but the visiting striker could only
chip wide from distance. Minutes later
Sergio might have helped put Benifaio
into the lead had his team-mates been
alert, the striker forcing Ruiberriz
into palming the ball away at full-stretch
only to see Aldo able to collect the
loose ball comfortably on the left side.
The left-back was a determined player
down the flanks and he was unlucky not
to be rewarded for his perseverance
minutes before the break but his effort
from a free-kick sailed well wide of
the goal.
Just
before half-time, Javea regained the
advantage. Canari floated a great ball
into the box from the left flank which
was collected well by Scott. The Englishman
dribbled across the face of the goal
before firing past the keeper at the
left post from close range to give the
'rojiblancos' a 2-1 half-time lead.
It was Scott's fourth goal in three
games and a perfect reward for his own
resolve in a game that Javea was in
danger of losing control, especially
after Benifaio's chubby Alberto hit
the bar from 25 yards with a delithful
curling shot that had Ruiberriz well
beaten.
Javea
needed to lift their game in the second-half as
a single-goal lead might not be enough
against a side devoid of any real talent
but more than capable of snatching an
unlikely goal. Indeed Benifaio applied
plenty of pressure during the opening
fifteen minutes of the second period
and Alberto should have done better
with a long-range effort that smashed
into the perimeter well wide of the
goal.
But
gradually the 'rojiblancos' got themselves
back in control of the game and Scott
almost put the game beyond doubt when
he met substitute Rubén Serrio's corner
superbly but his powerful header was
cleared off the line by Benifaio's Quique.
The crowd rose in appreciation of the
Englishman's determination which appeared
to rub off on his team-mates. David
Ivars was unlucky with an effort from
distance after some excellent work from
Canari and Youssoupha in the centre
of the park. Javea forced a succession
of corners but the visiting defence
stood firm. Then Onieva was unlucky
not to outrun Chispa to a loose ball,
allowing the visiting custodian to boot
the ball away for a throw-in.
Yet,
for the domination by the home team,
Beniafio almost forced an equaliser
midway through the second-half when
the tricky Sergio unleashed a ferocious
shot from a full 30 yards; Ruiberriz
was beaten but the effort sailed inches
wide of the right-hand upright, much
to the relief of the home fans.
Javea
reacted by turning the screw a
little more yet Onieva should have
done better when he met a great pass
from substitute Dino but his effort
smashed noisily into the perimeter fence.
The play certainly wasn't pretty but
it was serving a purpose in keeping
the 'rojiblancos' ahead of their rivals.
Eight minutes from time, Onieva passed
James Lindie as top scorer of the season
by scoring his eighth goal of the season
- and what a strike it was! The striker
collected the ball in the centre of
the pitch and charged forward on an
angle to unleash a powerful shot from
30 yards which beat the desperate dive
of Ivan and nestled in the left hand
bottom corner of the net. Benifaio were
then reduced to ten men when Oso was
sent off for unsavoury words to the
officials in the immediate aftermath
of the goal. Minutes later Javea assured
maximum points when substitute Dino
shot low and hard from a narrow angle
on the right-hand side which the keeper
somehow allowed to get past him to hand the
'rojiblancos' a 4-1 victory.
