CD JAVEA showed
some real fighting spirit to continue
their chase for a play-off spot,
inflicting only a second defeat
of the season on pace-setters UD
Beniganim in an enjoyable game at
the Municipal Stadium. Goals from
Juan Ochando and loanee James Lindie
secured maximum points and moved
the rojiblancos to within three points of the play-off promotion
zone.
UD Beniganim
arrived at the Municipal Stadium boasting an 11-game
unbeaten run as well as a fearsome
strike record of almost three goals
a game. However a disappointing home
draw against lowly Torrent CF the previous
weekend hightlighted one or two chinks
in their armour and coach Kenny Brown
was keen to capitalise on those weaknesses
as he had done so with early pace-setters
UD Oliva just a few weeks ago.
Injuries
continue to ravage the squad at Javea
and there was almost an addition to
the ever-growing list when goalkeeper
Ortolá was struck hard on the side of
his chest by a fierce shot from Carlos
Ribes during the warm-up. The custodian
clutched his side in agony but early
fears were eased after some attention
from physio Visbal and the young keeper
took his usual place between the sticks.
Elsewhere both Pablo and Álex Cuadrado
took their places in the stand on crutches
alongside the injured Javi, all three out
for the forseeable future whilst Julio
Ivorra's return from long-term injury
was apparently dealt a blow as
he cast a lone figure behind one of
the goals. Kenny's diminishing squad
needed to play at their best.
Both
sides began the game passing the ball
well around the pitch but neither side
could carve out a real chance until
Juan Ochando hit the post with an ambitious
over-head kick after a succession of
corners from the right-hand side. The
visiting custodian seemed nervous in
goal and Javea looked to capitalise
on such anxiety by continuing to force
the keeper into punching the ball behind
for another conveyor-belt of corners.
Eventually something had to give and
Ochando scored his second goal of the
season, nodding through a crowd of players
to put the home side into a deserved
lead at half-time.
The
second half brought more life into the
game from both players and fans as the
chill swept down from Montgo with night
falling. Within minutes the rojiblancos
doubled their advantage with another
great strike from Southend United loanee
James Lindie who chased through the
defence to slide the ball past
the advancing keeper just inside the
box and score his seventh goal of the
season - his third in as many games
- and surely CD Javea have to try and
scure his services for another loan
period when the current agreement ends
in a few weeks.
However
Beniganim refused to conceded defeat
and ten minutes later forced Juanma into
a woeful defensive error to allow the
visitors to pull back a consolation
through substitute Mateo.
They lifted their game in search of
the equaliser, passing the ball well
around the park and making the rojiblancos
work extremely hard. The home fans
responded by lifting their voices to
encourage their side to hang on, even
try and score again to put the game
beyond doubt. After a short period of
pressure from Beniganim, the referee
finally brought the game to a close
as the fans continue to sing in celebration.
A decent win for the rojiblancos and
a handy three points to keep the side
in touch with the play-offs.
