CD Javea set the early pace after a hard-fought victory over a determined side from UD Caicaixent. Goals from Onieva and Lindie sealed the victory, although the rojiblancos suffered a late scare when the visitors bundled home a late consolation in the 93rd minute of play as the buoyant crowd called for the final whistle. The win lifts Javea into joint first place alongside close neighbours UD Oliva and confidence rides high for the trip to struggling Torrent CF next weekend.

The sunshine brought out the fans and around 500 gathered in the early evening sunshine at the Campo d’Esports to cheer on the rojiblancos. Confidence was high after the great 2-0 away win over CD Llosa the previous weekend but UD Carcaixent, boasting two ex-Javea players, were not to be underestimated. However the home side got off to the best possible start when Onieva scored his second goal of the season in the opening minute of the game, smashing the ball into the net from close range to put the rojiblancos into the lead. The drum and trumpet duo led the fans into celebratory mood. However the visitors were not about to sit back and allow Javea to dominate.

Carcaixent had been mooted as one of the pre-season favourites for a play-off spot and they strongly lifted themselves from this early set-back to begin pounding at the home defence for a way back into the game. Both Juanma and Juan Ochando worked like Trojans in the centre of defence to try and snuff out any advantage through the middle whilst Dan Harvey and Ruben Serrio were almost run ragged by persistent forays down the flanks. However the defence stood resolute; no-one shall pass – and if they did, goalkeeper Ortola was quite literally on hand as the last line of defence.

At the other end of the pitch, Javea looked to extend their advantage, cheered on by the boisterous crowd, but the away side was defending well and the rojiblancos had few chances to score another goal. Just before half-time, Carcaixent were awarded a dubious free-kick on the edge of the area and former player Sergio stepped up to take the kick. Most knew of his talent for dead-ball situations and fingers were nervously bitten as the player ran up to the ball which was thankfully smashed into the defensive wall. However was the ball stopped by a hand inside the area? The visiting side certainly thought so and appealed loudly for a penalty, surrounding both the referee, who waved play on, and (bizarrely) the player guilty of the offence. With a loud sigh of relief, both the home players and the fans were happy to see neither the referee nor the player in question award a penalty and Javea went into the break having to be a little thankful to be still in the lead.

The second-half brought more pressure from Carcaixent who were keen to drag themselves back into the game - and certainly looked more than capable of doing so. Former player Toni Burguete was introduced early in the second period and, alongside the irritating Pedros, he worked hard to seek out an equaliser. However the introduction of on-loan striker James Lindie for the disappointing Juanito brought some advantage back to the home side. The Southend United youngster was making his league debut for Javea and was keen to make a lasting impression. Within minutes the fans were dancing in wheels of delight after Lindie side-footed the ball into a empty net after some great work down the right-hand side to double the advantage for CD Javea. Two minutes later it got even better for the rojiblancos when Carcaixent's Fran was sent off after receiving a straight red card for an appalling foul on the far side of the pitch.

Yet the home side still had to work extremely hard to contain some late pressure from Carcaixent and, with the fans calling for the final whistle, the visitors finally got the ball into the back of the net to reduce the arrears when Alfonso was able to head over Ortolá and a croded six-yard box in the 93rd minute. However the visitors were not given the time to look for the equaliser as the referee finally brought the game to a close just after the re-start.

It was a solid performance from CD Javea, although I'm not sure that victory was quite as convincing as others might suggest. However the win puts the rojiblancos into a commanding position with an away trip to struggling Torrent CF to be followed by two home games against strong rivals for promotion. With continued confidence, CD Javea may well find themselves setting a decent pace for the others to follow.
