THE
PEÑA JAVEAMIGOS was set up in June 2005 with the
primary aim
to encourage the ex-pat community in Jávea to become
more involved with their local football club. That
objective has been fairly successful and attendances
have been creeping up over the past couple of years
from barely 100 to an average of around 650.
The
closest one can get to organised
supporters clubs in Spain are "peñas". These
tend to honour a favourite player or a special event
such as a historic thrashing of local rivals and a major football club can expect to have many different
flavours; for instance Real Madrid can boast several hundred
different peñas, not just in the capital but spread
across Spain and the rest of the world. These supporters
groups are passionate about their football club and
lend them their support through thick and thin.
The
PEÑA JAVEAMIGOS is no different; we work to encourage all the communities
of Javea to come out and support their local football
club, both home and away. Consequently we have travelled around the province of Alicante
enthusiastically supporting our team and have built
close links with other ex-pat peñas such as the Almoradi
Amigos
and
the Torry
Army.
During
the first-half of the 2007-08 season, Sky Sports followed
the fortunes of CD Javea to produce its popular one-off
documentary "La Lower Liga" which was broadcast
at the beginning of January 2008. Members of the PEÑA
JAVEAMIGOS were popular subjects for the producers and
there is talk of a follow-up programme during the spring
of 2008.
