WEDNESDAY
16th JANUARY 2008
Once
again the trip to Albatera CF proved to
be a fun day out and anyone who attended
would be hard-pressed to remember a better
atmosphere this season. The roof helped
but the willingness of the local fans to
join in with the banter created a great
environment and reminded me of several away
trips with Southend United a few years back.
On our way out after the game, some of the
more vocal home fans stopped us and informed
us that we were the best fans that
had visited their ground; once again our
sense of fun wins over more people across
the province!
A
good turnout at Albatera opened up the discussion
of running a coach to Pinoso this weekend.
The immediate problem was that we would
have had to book a coach yesterday in order
to secure a decent rate and we didn't have
enough people to confirm that they would
travel on our transport. We know a lot of
people like to travel in their own cars;
some hate coach travel, others want the
freedom to get back to Javea without hanging
about. At the end of the day, it doesn't
matter how we get to the games because we
are certainly creating a superb impression
around the league with our sense of commitment
to the team. Our presence at away games
this season has been hugely impressive;
to take around a couple of dozen all
the way to Albatera was striking, not forgetting
a similar number of Spanish who also travelled,
creating a very decent presence in the stands.
We've even outnumbered the home fans
at places like Orihuela and Altea. This
season we really want to support our team
on their travels so if you are interested
in travelling by coach to any game,
please contact me. And if you prefer going
by your own transport, don't forget to check
the website each week for our new previews
with full travel details and information.

ALBERTO
BACK IN BUSINESS FORMER manager
Alberto Araujo has been installed as gaffer at
struggling Third Division side CD
Onda. Online resource LibreIndirecto.com
reports that the club, located some 20kms
inland from Castellon, has reached
an agreement with the coach to lift it out
of the current crisis in which it finds
itself; they are currently in 19th position
in Group VI, two points adrift of safety
after a haul of just one point in the last
six games and are in real danger of dropping
into regional football for the first time
in over 50 years.
Alberto
joined CD Javea at the tail end of January
2006 after the dismissal of Franco
Borrás. The rojiblancos had slipped
away from the promotion race after five
successive defeats and the board felt that
the obvious enthusiasm of the 31-year-old
former Valencia CF youth player was required
to lift the club away from the wrong end
of the table. Javea lost just four games
in the remaining sixteen games of the 2005/06
season and finished in a respectable 7th
position, just eight points adrift of the
promotion play-off spots.
However,
just four wins in 13 games of the 2006/07
campaign saw the end of the young coach's
short tenure at the helm of CD Javea. At
the beginning of December 2006, President
Juanjosé Buigues Ortolá announced the departure
of Alberto and three first-team players
in a radio interview; incredibly the coach
would hear the news on his car radio as
he drove to work! The club was in danger
of implosion with players refusing to train
and at least a half-dozen first-teamers threatening
to quit the club altogether. Confusingly
Alberto would remain at the helm for another
month before finally departing the club
in mid-January 2007.
Alberto
Araujo always thought very highly of the
JAVEAMIGOS and he made sure that we would
all know of his appreciation in a communique
received a few days after he finally left
the club. "I would like to extend my
gratitude to the JAVEAMIGOS for their support
during my time in charge at CD Javea. The
club, its supporters and players, will always
be in my heart and I hope that one day it
will be great club; good luck and a good
future for CD Javea!"
EX-PAT
PASSION FOR CD JAVEA Our exposure
on Sky Sports has raised our profile not
just across the Costa Blanca but also beyond
the borders. A budding writer by the name
of Jake Hall has written a short piece about
CD Javea and the influence of ex-pats on
football in Spain. Entitled "The 2nd
Wave" (a reference to the spread of
football by the English back in the 19th
century), Jake has interviewed club president
Mark Catlin about the influence of the extranjeros
on the new era at CD Javea and is worth
a look.

NOTHING
WRONG WITH THE PREFERENTE The lads
and lasses down in Torrevieja has also been
discussing the Sky Sports programme and
there is even a small thread about it on
the Torry Army forum. Everyone seems to
have enjoyed the look at CD Javea and there
is even word of a follow-up "La Lower
Liga II" subject to the production
company getting the right sort of backing
in the form of sponsorship. Take a look
at the forum and leave your own comments
if you so desire.

ALMORADI
AMIGOS VISIT JAVEA John Flack and
his production company intend to return
to the Costa Blanca to cover CD Almoradi's visit
to us on Sunday 17th February. After discussion
with Pete Burden of the Almoradi Amigos,
who travelled up to Javea just before Christmas, the
peña intends to visit El Mono Loco
for pre-match drinks with the JAVEAMIGOS.
A return darts match doesn't appear to be
much of a priority (we had a hard enough
task persuading people to play back in September)
so we've decided not to pursue this option,
especially as time might not be on our side.
We intend to lay on food and perhaps other
entertainment so if anyone has ideas or
wishes to lend a hand, please contact me
ASAP!
