WOMEN'S DAY RACE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR CANCER Wednesday 22nd
February 2012
Details
have been released about the forthcoming "Women's
Day" special event on Sunday 4th March. Empar Bolufer,
the councillor responsible for Equality, introduced
the special programme for the 'IV None-Competitive Race' with
the help of several women from the Club de Atletismo
Llebeig which have organised the event for the last
four years, raising money to help in the fight against
cancer.
Registration
for this event opens on Monday 27th February and
interested parties can register their interest at the
athletics track in C/. Ramon Llido, at the Embruix
cafeteria in Calle Major or at the Amas de
Casa headquarters in Ronda Sur. Commemorative T-shirts
will also be on sale for 3 euros.
The
"race" to the port and back - entrants can
either walk or run - will leave the athletics track
next to CEP Graüll school in C/. Ramon Llido at 10.30
a.m. There will be music as well as entertainment activities
organised by the Cruz Roja. A special tent will
outline the "Tu eres igual" campaign,
a tribute to women as well as cancer patients and those
who died from the disease.
Bolufer
detailed further activities which have bene organised
by her department, including special performances on
Women's Day itself - Thursday 8th March - and a play
entitled "Tu i jo" on Saturday 10th
March. A week later, on Friday 16th March at 7.00 p.m.,
journalist and mother of four children Eva Piper, will
speak on labour equality at the Casa del Cultura in
Plaça del Baix.
Three
workshops have also been prepared on Thursday 15th March,
Thursday 22nd March and Thursday 29th March at the Centro
Social opposite the Plaza de la Constitución on such
topics as sexism, sexist language and gender equality.

Empar
Bolufer finished by reminding everyone that in addition
to these celebrations, her department advocates education
and preventitive activities throughout the year whilst
providing service and legal counselling.
