PAYS HOMAGE TO DAVID FERRER, A HERO OF THE DAVIS CUP Wednesday 21st
December 2011
This
evening - Wednesday 21st December - the Ayuntamiento
of Jávea will be offering a special homage to local
tennis player David Ferrer, who brings to a close one
of the best seasons of his career. A stage is to be
mounted in front of the town hall building in Plaça
de l'Esglesia from which music with create an exciting
ambiance from 6.30pm. At about 8.00pm, Ferrer will be
greeted by members of the town council led by Mayor
José Chulvi before the player will show off the Davis
Cup, the tournament recently won by Spain to the delight
of everyone in Jávea for the part played by David Ferrer.
The 29-year-old
is currently number 5 in the ATP Rankings, the second-highest
ranked Spaniard behind world number 2 Rafael Nadal.
He formed part of the Spanish Davis Cup team that won
the title in 2008, 2009 and 2011 in Seville, the latter
tournament seeing residents glued to television
sets in home and bars around Jávea as Ferrer clawed
back from a consecutive loss of sets against Argentinian
Juan Martín del Potro to take the game 3-2, a victory
greeted with spontaneous applause and cheering throughout
the town.
