javeamigos.com | JAVEA: FESTIVAL DE MAR DE XABIA 2013

The Business and Merchants Association of Aduanas del Mar (ACEAM) has unveiled details of the second edition of the Festival de Mar de Xàbia which will place over the first weekend of June, kicking off the summer season with three days of nautical entertainment. Starting on Friday 31st May, the festival will be centred on the promenade which borders the Playa del la Grava, a new site that allows more room for some 30 exhibitors who will participating in the nautical fair. There will also be statues created by local artist Toni Marí and an exhibition dedicated to the Reserva Marina del Cap de Sant Antoni, the important marine reserve which envelopes the tip of Cabo de Sant Antoni which dominates the port area.

ACEAM President Yolanda Ponce presented details on an event that successfully debuted in the town in 2012 and whose main challenge is to highlight the value of the natural resources offered by the sea as well as the activities it allows as well as attracting residents and visitors to the commercial potential of the port area of Jávea.

Rudolphe Dupuis outlined the many activities that will be available to the public from noon on Friday 31st May when the event will be officially opened in the presence of not only local dignitaries but also local athlete Rafa Andarias, two-times national champion in Adaptive Sailing. Dupuis confirmed that the festival will focus on four areas: the professional nautical fair, a nautical-themed market of semi-new goods, demonstrations, exhibitions, workshops, gourmet menus and attractions as well as a surfski competition. There will be also information about boat rentals, windsurf and wakeboard instruction, diving schools and maritime excursions as well as fashion and beauty products.

Complementing the main events will be other activities such as model boating, demonstrations on rowing, canoeing, stand-up paddling, flyboard as well as free trips on an underwater viewing boat courtesy of Mundomarino. There will be workshops of fishing techniques and lectures on sharks which travel through the area. Popular Cuban guitarist Inti Cardoso will be performing whilst there will be guided visits to the fishing auction market, swimsuit fashions shows, a mock rescue by the Cruz Roja, a demonstration on how to cook the local fish stew known as 'Cruet de Peix'. Local restaurants and bars will be offering themed menus. Finally, the Fourth Round on the XI Liga de Surfski Kayak de Mar de la Comunidad Valenciana 2013 will also be taking place. There will be something for everyone in the port over the weekend.

Councillor Juan Luis Cardona (Economic Development) extended an invitation to visit the festival to all who enjoy the sea and promises that the event will be "a strong attraction for Jávea" and a place where one can do business and make contacts with the nautical world. He congratulated the organisers for putting together a special event.
