Second-half goals from Lucas and Roberto secure three points

Sunday 25th November 2018

JAVEA NEWS | CD Javea 2-0 Racing Rafelcofer CF

Second half goals from Lucas Bou and Roberto secured all three points in a tough game against bottom-club Racing Rafelcofer CF and extended CD Jávea unbeaten start to the season to thirteen games. The win keeps the rojiblancos in 4th spot, three points behind the top three of CD Dénia, UD Castellonense and UE CF Tavernes, and maintains the club's reputation as the best defensive team in the league, having conceded just six goals in 13 games.

The first half didn't create much action with neither side doing enough to dominate proceedings. The visitors, bottom of the league table at the start of play, were a hard, physical side that fought for every ball. The rojiblancos didn't quite know what to do against such a rough opposition and the first 45 minutes suffered for it. Unsurprisingly the first yellow card of the game was shown just five minutes into the game with Rafelcofer's Caudeli cautioned for a unforgiving tackle on Jávea's Paco.

Opportunities were few and far between. On 18 minutes Jávea's Favio went well wide of the right hand upright with a speculative overhead kick from just outside the area whilst six minutes later Rafelcofer's Jordi Sirerol combined well with Hayrapetyan to beat the offside but Javea keeper Edu did enough to push the attacker wide and close the threat. The first corner didn't come until the 27th minute and Jávea went close to opening the scoring with Paolo meeting Paco's cross well on the far side of the goal but he powered his header just wide of the left post. The game ebbed back and forth with the visitors having the last opportunity of the first half when Torres saw his effort from the edge of area deflected wide for a corner and then Jordi Sirerol went close from the subsequent kick.

The second half brought some renewed effort from the rojiblancos. Just a minute in Favio attempted another overhead kick, meeting a cross into the area after some great work by Michael down the left flank, but the effort went side. A minute later Rafelcofer's Bertó went close with a rather speculative shot from 20 yards that fell just wide of the right post. On 51 minutes the visitor's No.11 Enrique Sirerol collected the ball inside his own half and ran through the midfield pushed aside a desperate defence to charge into the area but, before he had a chance to get away a shot, the defence managed to get in a block and the player collapsed to the floor. There were desperate shouts for a penalty from the away bench and the handful of travelling fans in the stand but the referee confidentally waved away the calls.

Jávea lifted their game and forced a series of chances before Lucas Bou, making his first start of the season as he looks to complete his recovery from long-term injury, opened the scoring, sliding the ball past the keeper from 12 yards to make it 1-0. The goal lifted the home side a notch with substitute Ferran going close after some great work down the right side from fellow subsitute Roberto. On 73 minutes Roberto himself scored his second goal of the season, a delightful placed shot from just outside of the area that curved beautifully around the outstretched hand of the keeper to hit the back of the net just inside the left post.

With coach Antonio Villaescusa, a victim of last week's controversial yellow card extravaganza, calling for more goals from the stands, Jávea pushed forward and leading scorer Palau almost added to his tally with a powerful shot just inside the area which was well-saved by the keeper; the corner which followed came to nothing. Four minutes from time, the visitors had the ball in the back of the net, the result of a rare moment of panic in the Jávea defence when Rafelcofer's Padilla floated a free kick into the box which the home side failed to clear completely resulting a loose ball falling to Bertó inside the area who smashed it past Edu and into the back of the net. But his effort was ruled out for offside much to the dismay of the visiting bench and coach Jorge Moratal was dismissed for showing a little too much of that dismay to the assistant.

For the final few minutes, Jávea had to absorb a constant onslaught from Rafelcofer to defend that record. A minute into added time, Enrique Sirerol almost forced a consolation, his magnificent long-range effort beating Edu but hitting the bar. The ball fell into a crowded area, it was cleared off the line by desperate defending, but the visitors continued to push until the final whistle.
