The two best defensive sides in the league cancel each other out

Thursday 1st November 2018

CD Jávea climbed into the top three after a 0-0 home draw against UD Castellonense in the re-arranged round 8 game at the Campo d'Esports Municipal. It was a clash between two of the best defences in the league which meant that real chances by either side were few and far between and a share of the spoils seemed to be the most anticipated result. Under coach Antonio Villaescusa, CD Jávea continue their unbeaten start to the season but five draws from nine games means that they haven't been able to pull ahead just yet.

Jávea might have opened the scoring after just 15 seconds of the game with a strong attack resulting in Favio firing across the face of a crowded goal-mouth with the keeper stranded. Not be undeterred the visitors sought to dominate in the centre of the park by any means possible which included the occasional dive in response to the most innocuous of challenges which brought howls of derision from the stand. But two solid defences reduced the sides to the occasional breaks, many of which were flagged for offside, although the visitors had a bit of luck with a rare corner which Palomarés met perfectly with his head but his effort was well-saved by Edu.

In the second-half Castellonense continued to press and had two efforts through Marcos Campo and Dani de la Cal, the latter hitting the post after the keeper was beaten. Jávea fought hard to snatch a winner but continued to be frustrated by the play-acting of the visitors. Substitute Rubén Ortolá's introduction midway through the second-half  brought renewed vigour to Jávea's attack but the visiting defence worked hard to contain him effectively.

As the final whistle blew, a draw was probably the right result. CD Jávea now host lowly CF Tous on Sunday 4th November, kick-off 4.30pm. And then they face another big game, a trip over the hill to face arch-rivals CD Dénia whose 5-1 demolition of Monte Sion lifted them above the rojiblancos and into second spot.
