CRAFTS AND TAPAS FOR OCTOBER LONG HOLIDAY WEEKEND
The port zone will be enlivened with the annual tapas festival

Tuesday 2nd October 2018

JAVEA NEWS | Craft Fair and Tapas 2018

For the fourth year running the AMATA craft association has joined with their business associates in Xàbia Port to offer a fun opportunity to enjoy both crafts and tapas in the port over the long holiday weekend 12th-14th October. The food festival will be enjoying its seventh edition, offering visitors a chance to walk around the participating establishments in the port area and enjoy specially-selected tapas snacks and drinks to complement. The craft fair located along the beach promenade will be featuring a number of stalls offering home-made articles made by the very people who are selling them.

A spokesman from AMATA said: "If you think that the fairs that you find everywhere along the beach front are all the same, you haven't been to the one in the Port of Jávea.  Here, the regional craft association AMATA carefully selects the participants - and you will see the difference!  Everything is made by the people on the stalls, people who have decided to spend their lives making objects that please themselves and which they hope will please others.  They use natural or recycled materials, a few hand tools or perhaps a simple machine, and they often can make something to suit you - in a special colour, with a name or in a particular size.  Perhaps a little early for your Christmas shopping, but on the other hand, where are you going to find such nice and original presents for all your loved ones?"

Some twenty craftsmen and women set up to show what they have made - ceramics and decorated stones, traditional wooden toys, embossed leather bags and pictures, made-to-measure leather dog collars, wrought iron, water colours and oil paintings, special T-shirts, candles made from real beeswax, and jewellery using macramé, aluminium from recycled soft drink cans, silver and copper.  There will also be a potter so you can even have a go at making your own cup or bowl. The craft fair will be open from 11.00am to 11.00pm over the three days, although it will close earlier on the Sunday.

La Mar de Tapas has become a very popular seafood tapas food festival with the participating bars and restaurants of Xàbia Port setting up special stalls outside their venues so that as many people as possible can enjoy their snacks and drinks in exchange for tickets that can be purchased at several points around the zone. There will be complementary activities throughout the weekend with live music, street bands and the ever-popular batukada drums. The festival opens on Friday 12th at 12:30pm and will continue over the weekend with a short break during the afternoon.
