RESIDENTS PETITION TO STOP BEACH BAR DEVELOPMENT ON MUNTANYAR II
Residents and visitors have long enjoyed this quiet section of coastline

Wednesday 15th August 2018

JAVEA NEWS | Beach Bar Development Controversy

Xàbia residents living in the vicinity of Muntanyar II, the rocky coastline between Playa del Arenal and Cala Blanca, have launched a petition to fight a proposal to build a beach bar development on a vacant plot in front of Calle Patrai and the apartment blocks of Montañar and Karine.

According to the petition description, hosted on the petition website change.org, this section of coastline has been kept wild with very little urban development except for some wooden bridges that cross the Séquia de la Nòria and some ladders on the shoreline which assist access into the sea. Residents and visitors, individuals and families, have long enjoyed this quiet section of the coast but now it is being threatened by the development of a beach bar.

Investigations by Javea.com have uncovered details of a project proposed by a private company and submitted to the General Directorate of Costas for permission of construct a building on an empty plot along Avenida Ultramar opposite apartment blocks Montañar and Karine. A previous proposal submitted in 2016 was rejected by Costas due to it not being regulations but the company has submitted an updated and modified proposal for an open building with terrace and pergolas for use by the hostelry industry. A building licence was approved by the Council on July 19th 2018 although there was an error in the paperwork since the licence was granted for Plot 62 rather than Plot 69 which is the correct one.

The resident petition calls on the Ayuntamiento de Xàbia not to allow the development of this plot and leave it in its natural state.

If you agree with the concerns of the residents and don't want to see this proposal become a reality, you can sign the petition here.
