FIESTA PORTITXOL 2018 - A WEEKEND OF TRADITION
Dancing, music and community dining

Tuesday 7th August 2018

JAVEA NEWS | Festes Loreto 2018

Hot on the heels of the festivities of La Plana, the popular and modest fiestas of the summer continue this weekend with the celebrations of Portitxol, a weekend of music, tradition and community spirit amongst "portixoleros" as well as friends who want to accompany them.

These traditional fiestas were revived nine years ago after a 50-year hiatus and have been essentially a celebration of the traditions of the Valencian country with the dancing, the music, the comedy and, of course, the language. Spread over two days it is a modest but very welcoming event which takes place on Saturday evening and the following morning with activities for all the family.

The events kick off on Saturday 11th at 7.30pm with a simple parade through the village of Portitxol with traditional music provided by the Colla de Portitxol which will be followed by snacks and drinks for everyone. At 8.30pm there will be a performance by the renowned Valencian singer and poet Pep Gimeno "Botifarro" after which there will be traditional dancing in the streets led by the Grup de Danses del Portitxol. At 10.30pm the courtyard opposite the tosca stone of Portitxol will have been transformed into a communal dining area to which everyone is invited to bring along some food and drink (there will also be a bar) and then the evening will continue into the early hours with dancing to love music provided by Orquesta Diamonds.

The celebrations continue on Sunday morning at 9.00am with the traditional wake-up parade, a very tasty brunch which consists mainly of grilled sardines, traditional games and activities for both the children and those who are young at heart before the festivities will close at around midday with a performance by the young people of the Tom'n'Go percussion group.
