Final legal procedures need to be completed to secure 2018-2021 contracts

Thursday 7th June 2018

JAVEA NEWS | Beach Bars 2018

After weeks of delay the popular chiringuitos should finally be open by the second half of June after the formal procedures required to secure the contracts for the next four years are completed. Staff at the town hall have been working hard to analyse each of the winning bids for all the season services for the period 2018-2021 and those who offered the highest amounts for each service have been given ten working days to present all the necessary valid documentation. This could mean that the beach bars will be open for business by the third weekend of June.

Documentation required includes certification of competency as well as a declaration that the business has the sufficient financial solvency to provide the service and fulfill the contract terms and conditions.

The amounts bid for the seasonal services for 2018-2021 have been confirmed as follows:

Beach Bars
Position 1 (was Baja Bay for the period 2014-17): 70,000 euros
Position 2 (L'Aigua Beach): 46,200 euros
Position 3 (La Veleta): 52,150 euros
Position 4 (Sanoa): 47,250 euros
Position 5 (Parador): 85,199 euros

Sunbeds and Umbrellas
Playa de la Grava: 12,500 euros
Playa del Arenal: 240,812 euros
Playa de la Barraca: 10,300 euros
Playa de la Granadella: 39,600 euros

Other Services
Windsurf Montañar: 6,500 euros
Pedalos Playa del Arenal: 50,085 euros

Each of the beach bars had a starting price of 15,000 euros except Position 1 which was 18,000 euros since it also included a contract for sunbeds and umbrellas on the Benissero stone beach. Therefore the Ayuntamiento de Xàbia expected to receive a minimum of some 78,000 euros for the five positions. The winning bids totalled 300,799 euros, well above the minimum expected price, confirming the supposed profitability of each of the beach bars. According to the tender information, each beach bar can be no more than 20 square metres in size with a terrace area of no more than 50 square metres.

Given the inflated bid prices to secure the positions, the total value of the contracts for the season services for 2018-2021 is expected to be around 2,716,000 euros, more than double the starting value of 1,186,000 euros. However the Ayuntamiento de Xàbia will need to deduct the fee which needs to be paid to Costas for the use of the coastal space which is under its responsibility.
