scientific studies show that hearing the music of our
youth and dancing to these tunes has a rejuvenating
effect on cells in our brains. So Javea Community Fitness
decided to carry out its very own experiment on the
matter by putting on a party where people could dance
to the sounds of the 60's, 70's and 80's. And of course,
being true to their core ethics of all fitness classes
and events being organised to raise money for local
Javea charities, they decided to partner up with a very
worthy local organisation headed by Jacqui Phillips
MBE: MABS Cancer Support Foundacion, Javea. Tickets
were priced at €10 and with all proceeds from the sale
going to MABS. Ultimately €1500 was raised.
Georgina Saccone Mithieux approached Lizzy Benton and
Eric Champon from Javea Community Fitness about the
idea of a dancing event, the JCF team loved the idea
of getting the message out there to the local community
that moving your body to keep fit does not have to involve
jumping around at a fitness class, 'dancing is a fantastic
exercise for both the body and the mind' said Lizzy
Benton, co-founder of JCF. The team then pitched the
idea to Juan Fran at bar l'Encant as the potential venue
for the event; Juan Fran was totally supportive from
the word go, and even suggested the name 'Remember'
from an 80's Spanish radio programme... and the rest
is history as they say!
JCF's drive is to minimise any cost relating to their
initiatives in order to give as close to 100% of the
money collected during their outdoor fitness classes
as possible, the team embarked on a hunt for sponsors.
Vicens Ash Properties sponsored the printing costs of
the flyers and posters, and a dozen local shops and
businesses including Syncrolab Fitness and Rehabilitation,
Encantada Kids and Lifestyle, Detalles Boutique, Monsoon
Thai donated some twenty fabulous prizes worth hundreds
of euros for a raffle which was held on the night.
important piece of the puzzle was Paquitus Deep Jay,
the DJ from La Llum club in Javea's old town who also
immediately volunteered his time to organise the event
on the music front and paired up with Aibax for the
lighting and sound equipment. In true community spirit,
Lizzy and Eric also asked the members of Javea Community
Fitness to get involved by putting together the music
playlist for the party, asking folks to list the tracks
that were reminiscent of their youth in their country
of origin... and being in Javea with its 87 nationalities,
it was always going to be an exciting mix of tunes!
And indeed Paquitus did a fabulous job at keeping the
dance floor busy all night!
Fitness (JCF) has only been in existence since October
2017 and has already donated €900 to 3 local charities
in these 8 months. This 'REMEMBER' event now firmly
places JCF on the local map and will broadcast to anybody
in Javea who wants to get fit that this community group
has plenty to offer... Check out the facebook page at

Community Fitness is a true community project created
by local people for the benefit of local people! This
is the first initiative of its kind in Javea where we
offer outdoor fitness classes in various locations in
Javea all for charity! That's right, our instructors
give their time for free to the community and as a participant
100% of your class fee will be given to a local Javea
charity of your choice! So if you ever wanted to get
fit but never dared to join a class, the time has come!
You will get fit and you will benefit your community
at the same time. As a class participant, you become
an owner of our community fitness group, this means
you can suggest ideas for new classes that you'd like
to try out and also a local charity that is close to
your heart where you'd like the funds we raise to be
donated to. So come on, what are you waiting for? Get
your trainers on and come and join us for our next class!
