JAVEA NEWS | Brexit Meeting 2018

British Consul in Alicante, Sarah-Jane Morris, will be visiting Xàbia on Tuesday 20th February to attend an open meeting to talk with British residents about their concerns about Brexit and especially how it could affect them and what they can do to prepare. Organised by the Department of Resident Care, the meeting will take place in the Casa de Cultura in the Plaça del Baix in the heart of the historic centre at 4.00pm and is open to all who are interested.

Councillor Doris Courcelles explained that the meeting will begin with a brief talk from the Consul to update British residents with as up-to-date information as possible and then answer any questions that may be raised. The meeting is expected to last about an hour and municipal representatives as well as a specialised lawyer will also be present to answer any questions that may be relevant to the Ayuntamiento de Xàbia.

Sarah-Jane Morris last visited in early November 2016 when she admitted that there wasn't actually very much to say about the consequences of Brexit some four months after the fateful referendum. She added that the British government had no plan B in place to deal with the consequences of a leave result and that no-one really knew what was going to happen. Hopefully, some 15 months down the line, there will be more useful information to give Brits not only in Spain but across the European Union to better understand their future status.
