Latest figures show that registered unemployment in Xàbia at the end of December had risen to 1,789, up 17 on the end of November with the sector suffering the largest rise being Construction which recorded its biggest increase for some time. However, the good news is that the average number of registered unemployed for the whole year of 2016 was the lowest for seven years.

The unemployment rate in Xàbia rose slightly to 10.53%, remaining just below the rate for the Marina Alta region (12.00%) but well below the national unemployment rate of 18.91%. Compared to the same period in previous years, registered unemployment continues to fall. There were 1,881 people unemployed at the end of December 2015 (a drop of 92) and 1,951 at the end of December 2014 (-162) and more than 2,100 between 2011 and 2013.

Those registered as unemployed in the Services sector account for nearly three-quarters of the total unemployment whilst just under 16% cam from the Construction sector. The rest was divided between the Agriculture and the Industry sectors whilst the number of those registered as unemployed and without any previous work experience dropped to 131.
