CLUB ANNOUNCES RACE WHICH EXPLORES GRANADELLA Wednesday 15th
February 2012
The Club de Atletismo Llebeig Xŕbia has
revealed details of the third edition of the Mountain Crossing event in Jávea
which will take place on the morning of Sunday 26th February. Club president
Juanjo Vallés explained that the challenge will pass through the fores of Granadella, one of the most spectacular
areas of the municipality, and can be completed by either running or walking.
The course
for runners will cover a distance of 16 kilometres and leave Pinosol Park
at 10 a.m. There will be trophies for the top three in the categories of youth,
senior and veterans, both for men and women. There will also be prizes for the
top local finisher as well as commemorative T-shirts for all competitors. For
the walkers, who will cover some 13 kilometres of the same course, departure
time will be ten minutes after the runners and the event will be
non-competitive. Registration, open to everyone aged 16 and above, will be open
until February 24th and interested parties can register online on www.conxip.es or at La Rulla sports shop. The
entry fee will be 12 euros per person and includes insurance, water and snacks
during the race, a commemorative bag with T-shirt and lunch after the race.
The club
president explained that he hoped that the event through Granadella would open
up an area of the municipality that is unknown to many and which he described
as “a wonder to discover”. In addition, Juan Luis Cardona, the councillor
responsible for sports in the municipality, described the intended route as “impressive”
and encouraged those who enjoy sports to take part whilst praising the
organization of Club de Atletismo Llebeig
Xŕbia which now has almost 200 members and continues to organise many great
activities.
In addition
to the announcement of the Granadella event, Juan Zaragosí announced that
registration had opened for competing in the ‘Volta a Peu’, a race which is considered the “flagship” for the Llebeig club and attracts almost 1,500
participants from across the Marina Alta region. This year, the event will open
the Circuit a Peu de la Marina Alta
and will be staged on Sunday 10th March. The course will cover 10 kilometres
along the coast, beginning at the Municipal Sports Hall in the port and passing
through both the First and Second Muntanyars.
Zaragosí confirmed that one can compete in this race even if one is not
registered with the comarca circuit. For
