JAVEA'S
HISTORIC CENTRE WILL BE HIVE OF ACTIVITY DURING FESTIVE
PERIOD Monday 12th

In
a bid to offer something different to the out-of-town
shopping centres, the Business Association of the Historic
Centre, in collaboration with the town hall's Department
of Economic Development has released a huge programme
of activities for the festive period which include an
international Christmas fair, musical concerts, children's
activities and a special musical tapas route. There
is something for everyone from excited youngsters to
musical conoissuers as well as a special raffle in which
shoppers will receive an entry for a purchase in selected
outlets with the chance to win 2,000 euros. The festivities
get going this week and last through Christmas to the
parade of Los Reyes Magos on the evening of Thursday
5th January 2012.
Acivities
for the youngsters include a special playroom for the
over-6's in the Casal de Fogueres in Carrer En
Forn, just a few minutes walk from Placeta del Convent,
which will be open on Saturday 17th December as well
as Fridays 23rd and 30th December from 5.00pm to 8.00pm.
This is supplemented by a range of performances for
kids, including story reading at the library in Carrer
Major on Friday 16th December at 6.00pm as well as a
free screening of the Disney animated film "Merlín
el Encantador" on Friday 30th December at 11.00am
at the Casa de Cultura. On Tuesday 3rd January
at 5.00pm in the Casa del Cultura, the Periferia
Teatro group will entertain the children with their
piece entitled "Guyi-Guyi" about a
crocodile born into a family of ducks! And on Thursday
5th January at 11.30am in the Casa de Cultura,
as the kids anticipate the arrival of Los Reyes Magos
that evening, they can watch a Disney family favourite
entitled "Mi Amigo el Fantasma".
On
Saturday 17th December from 11.00am, a special international
Christmas market will be filling the Placeta del Convent,
a display of Christmas customs and traditions typical
of the many international residents who have chosen
to live in Jávea. At the same time and in the same place,
the popular Christmas Fun Run will take place in which
runners will have to participate in fancy dress. The
Placeta del Convent will be central to many activities
over the festive period, including the visit of Santa
Claus to collect letters from the children on the same
day as the Christmas market.
On
Friday 23rd December, the Pensioner's Association "Amanecer
de Xàbia" will be singing Christmas carols
throughout the historic centre from 11.30am, visiting
the Placeta del Convent, the Plaza de Correos, the Plaça
de Baix and the indoor market. On the same day, at 7.30pm,
the streets of the old town will be filled with the
sound of Christmas carols on the dulçaina and
tabalet from the Colla Xirimitab's.
Music
will be present thoughout the festive period including
chamber music performed by the students of the Conservatorio
Profesional de Música de Xàbia who will be playing
at the Conservatory at 7pm on Thursday 15th December
then the conservatory's wind section will be performing
at the Iglesia de San Bartolomé on Friday 16th
December at 8pm. On Saturday 17th December, the Orfeón
de Xàbia will be performing at Christmas concert
at the Iglesia de San Bartolomé at 9pm whilst
the choir and wind section of the Conservatorio
will be performing at the church on Monday 19th December
at 8pm.
The
Christmas Tapas Tour will take place on Friday 30th
December at 8pm and for 2 euros one can enjoy a glass
of wine or beer with a tapas dish from venues such as
Bar José, Casa Grau, Bar Montgó, Embuix, La Trastienda,
Palau, La Musa, Tasca Cambalache, Bar Mercat and Panadería
Pilar, all accompanied by music.
And
then, on Thursday 5th January, the Historic Centre welcome
the arrival of Los Reyes Magos, fresh from landing
at the port, who will process up Calle Juan Carlos I
and through the town to arrive at Placeta del Convent
to meet hundreds of excited children.
Overall,
a packed programme for the Historic Centre of Jávea
