PREPARES TO DRESS FANCY FOR CARNAVAL Thursday 9th

Final
preparations are being made for the popular celebration
of 'Carnaval' which will be taking place on Saturday
18th February. Juan Ortolá, the councillor responsible
for Fiestas, has announced that there will a children's
fancy dress parade at 5 p.m. which will start at the
Placeta del Convent and make its way through the old
town to the Plaza de la Constitución where there will
be a fun show for all the children involved. Later in
the evening there will be another parade for adults,
organised with the collaboration of the organising
committee of Sant Joan and the Quinta 2012 'La Fotrakà'.
A special jury will be in place to judge the best costumes
for 2012 with the best group winning 200 euros, the
best couple claiming 100 euros and best individual being
awarded 50 euros each. The parade will depart at 11
p.m. from the Placeta del Convent and pass through
the streets of the Historic Centre before ending at
the Plaza de la Constitución where there will be live
music by The Vission. Ortolà has also revealed
that budgetary constraints had forced the removal of
the 'Entierro de la Sardina' celebration which
usually concludes the Carnaval season.
