The traditional municipal nativity scene
has been transferred to a new location for Christmas 2011. Many have been
critical in the past of the scene being enclosed in a protective structure
which, more often than not, suffered from condensation which prevented people
from enjoying the intricacy of the display. This year, the location of the scene
has been transferred to the municipal museum – Museo Soler Blasco – and on Friday 2nd December it was officially
inaugurated by Juan Ortolá, councillor responsible for Fiestas along with the
president of the local association of nativity scenes, Remei Bataller. The
scene details traditional scenes of Christmas, including the manger, the
procession of the Three Wise Men and the daily life of shepherds. And on
Saturday, one can admire the progress of aficionados of nativity scenes who
have attended courses about their development and will be displaying their own
efforts for a few days in the Casa del Cable in Avda. Marina Española in the
port.
In addition, the “association
of nativity scenes” has published the second edition of its magazine “Nadaletes” in which it gives an
overview of its activities during the year as well as photographs of the
winning nativity scene in the annual competition that the association organizes
each Christmas. The magazine also includes traditional Christmas recipes as
well as information about the hobby of nativity scene making and a programme of
events of the Christmas holidays.
On Saturday 10th
December, the association will be visiting all the participants of the V annual
competition for nativity scenes, accompanied by the Tabaleters I Dolçcainers del Portitxol. The awards will be
presented from 6pm on Saturday 17th December in a special ceremony at the Casa
de Cultura in the Plaça del Baix in the old town where there will also be some
carol-singing.
