CD
Jávea are about to hold elections to
choose a new junta directiva
to take control of the club after three
years in the hands of a caretaker management
committee. And a bid led by Vicente
Font appears to propose a merger with
CF Mediterráneo de Xŕbia, the town's
other football team which plays in the
Regional Primera, one level lower than
CD Jávea. With the club still struggling
to balance the books, Font believes
that such action is necessary, essentially to
maintain the excellent youth academy
that has helped develop the skills of
the likes of Xavi Torres, who plays
at top-flight club Levante UD, and Adrian
Ortolŕ, who recently represented Spain
at U-19 level in the European Championships.
It is believed that the board of CF
Mediterráneo de Xŕbia are supporting
Font's bid to merge the two clubs, an
act that would optimise financial support
from the town hall, allowing the club
to further develop the youth academy.
"This is a sport for children and
the important thing is to have a good
soccer school for kids," said Font,
adding that such a small club like CD
Jávea can no longer justify huge salaries
for players and under his tenure, only
players who reside in Jávea or in the
surrounding towns and villages, will
be eligible to play for the club but
assured that the new entity would
be open to all the communities of Jávea,
whatever nationality. Font said that
there had to be great transparency of
club accounts and spending reduced to
more realistic levels.
